It comes out to an increase of $4.10 per month.
ok...that is doable!
Did you get the mailing on it last week? We did and it answered a lot of my questions.
The way I look at it is if this passes then hopefully my future children will have great libraries to grow up with like I did.
Just got it yesterdaY!!!! \
excellent! perfect timing!

Re: Local Town Library vs How Good is the Area
Posted by Summerrluvv Do you have children? The library is an AWESOME resource for kids. Not just for books but for all the awesome programs they have going on that are totally free. My son attended a program at least a couple of times a week this Summer doing projects, scavenger hunts, etc. The mommy and me type programs and preschool programs are also fantastic and again, free. A fantastic library is a gem IMO.
I agree as well. The library in the school district I work in has amazing programs. They even have programs for the children with special needs and are expanding the collection of resources for the children with special needs as well. With the proper funding it is incredible what a library can offer.

Actually, a very small portion of our taxes go to libraries. The majority goes to the schools (which is a good thing, don't get me wrong).
My friend works at Smithtown, and while she agrees there are problems, the new libraries look amazing. I hope the bond passes.
People that are regular library users are just happy to have one. They appreciate the hard working staff and the resources that are available. Those that don't use the library are the ones who vote no on bonds, because all they see is the "bottom line".
I work in a small village library, and our budget is not voted on by the residents. It comes from the Village. We just have to work with what we have, and the community really appreciates it.
ITA. I used to work at Syosset when they were trying to pass a bond to expand. It finally did pass and the library is gorgeous now. The people voting it down were people I never saw there before. What was really amazing was the mis-information out there. When people realized how little it was actually going to cost them, it passed.
Personally, maybe because I am a librarian (now SAHM), I will definitely look at the library before we buy a house. It will be a factor in my decision. I know there may be lots of great towns with not so great libraries, but I wouldn't want to live there. The programs and resources available there are just too important to me.

I was just at the Syosset library for a Director's meeting, and agree that it's totally beautiful. The Director gave us a tour and it's amazing all the wonderful things they offer to the community.

When we will know if it passes? I hope it does. We are looking to move there in a year or two, and that would be great.
Can you please make a post when you know more, if it passes or not, and more details if possible?
Thanks!

I will definitely keep everyone posted on the status of the Smithtown Libraries. I am talking it up and I hope it passes!
