LONG car trips with toddlers - need advice and RV info please!
So have you ever driven 15 - 24 hours away with one or two children under 5? If so, how did it go? Did anyone ever rent an RV and if so, do the kids still need car seats or do they just run around like on a bus? Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: LONG car trips with toddlers - need advice and RV info please!
I have driven to Florida with kids. DS went when he was 4.5 months old. We went with friends who have kids. They were under 5 when we went. Lots of car games, books, and a DVD player got them through the trip. I am pretty sure they would need to be in a car seat or booster while traveling in a RV...

We drove to Florida with a 4 year old and 6 month old, and it was a very easy trip. Lots of DVD's and books for my 4 year old, plus we brought some games that I played with him (Guess Who!, cards, etc.). My 6 month old slept most of the time, although I sat in the back with them and kept her entertained (singing, etc.) for a good part of the trip. We also stopped a bunch of times to take the baby out of the infant carseat and for my 4 year old to run around.

Can't put a car seat on most RV seats if they sit sideways. I haven't come across any carseat that allows installation on that type of set up. The seat can't face backwards either. It would have to be a standard seat like in a vehicle with a seatbelt to use to attach the seat.
I drove to DC alone with both dd's (2.75 and 10 weeks at the time) and did fine.

We're planning to drive to Chicago in November when DD will be 4 months old.. Do you ladies think it's too early?
I'm a little hesitant to take her on a plane at that age.. so our only option is to drive.

I think 4 months is perfect for that kind of drive. I think it's easier when they're younger and all they do is sleep. Harder when they're a little older and want to be entertained!
