Long Island: 2 of 7 metrics met for reopening
I'm surprised there is no talk about this here.
I know some people don't agree (or don't want agree mentally) but I'm glad that they are using actual metrics to decide on reopening timelines, instead of random feelings.

Doubt it will even happen for months. Depressing.

Re: Long Island: 2 of 7 metrics met for reopening
I doubt that even when we do meet these criteria we will be allowed to reopen right away. I think they’ll find reasons why LI/NYC need to stay closed down.
If we don’t find a way to open by early summer I believe we will be like this until next spring. Because how can we possibly hope to reopen in the fall just as flu season starts, or at any point during flu season?
I have lost almost all hope.

I think we already had the feeling this would be the case. It’s too depressing to talk about it. We’ve hashed everything out on here multiple times, there’s nothing left to say...

Re: Long Island: 2 of 7 metrics met for reopening
This was a blow as I was hoping my son’s special Ed summer session would be open. But seeing how far behind we are with metrics, and knowing that schools are phase 4, it’s all but impossible. I would imagine camps will not be open either. Which means there will likely be a lot of unemployed women in this area. Oh well.
ETA: I agree with PP though - glad at least to have measurable metrics so I know what to expect.

Re: Long Island: 2 of 7 metrics met for reopening
to be honest I am to the point where i believe he will keep making excuses till he gets what he wants.
I said this already in another thread; He said this only worked because people were willing to do it. I have a feeling more and more people are not going to be willing to listen anymore.
we need to let people out and work. I was all for it and I am still all for staying in if he is willing to give me a date. To say we have to stay in all summer is crazy!! Yes he may not be able to give a specific date but maybe if he says listen if we continue following the precautions is it possible in 2-3 weeks we will be opening up. Right now he keeps saying come May 15th we will see what can open and I am sure he knows he will not be opening our ares. Just say that already and stop with the hinting around it.
The point was not to overload the hospital system and its going down.
We need to let natural herd immunity happen and let people who dont feel comfortable stay in.
Also am I the only one who is sick of this being compared to the 1918 pandemic?
I don't know how we can compare what is going on today with what happened over 100 years ago when they had way less technology and way less sanitary conditions then we do now. Which had to play a role in deaths back then!

I am also happy he finally has something sort of resembling a plan...even though we know he won't follow it. And even if he does, LI is looking at many many many more months of lockdown - at least technically/legally. In reality, except for maybe schools and some stores, he isn't going to be able to enforce this much longer. People are already starting to do as they please and this behavior will only increase.

We will not be like this until next April when flu season is over. People will not listen that long. Are people just never going to go to work or school again? I wish he would give us some hope, people are beginning to crack. But, even though I do not trust him as far as I can throw him, give it another month or two with no change and no hope for an end. People will riot. All weekend people were out & about, I witnessed cops doing nothing. My friend is married to NYPD. She said they get so many 311 calls complaining about people not social distancing. There are only so many places they can go, and TBH, sometimes they see it and don't say a word anyway.

And to be honest, the cops have more serious crimes to be contending with in nyc.

I truly cannot believe that people are calling the police to tattle tale about this.
As the weeks go by, the police better get ready for a lot more calls.

Yes. Someone called 311 because 2 girls who "were obviously not from the same house" were riding bikes together less than 6 feet apart. What exactly would you like cops to do to a couple of 12 year old girls?

Hospitals in densely populated areas (ie NYC) are rarely at only 70% capacity even in the best of times.

I don’t even want to talk about it anymore. It’s too upsetting. I just want the pool and playground to open this summer. I promise I will not go by anyone and will immediately use hand sanitizer. I will make my kid wear a mask at the park. I also want to see my family, but we don’t live close to them so we would need to stay with them.

Also - everyone I know who was following the rules perfectly has been loosening up over the last week so I assume people who were barely following the rules are just doing whatever they want at this point.

I also love how he has repeatedly said schools and businesses must open together- but today he put schools as dead last. Who will be watching these children when their parents return to work? Everything will be functioning except schools? So the adults will all be out & about, but the children will still have nowhere to go?

Kids...who are least at risk...go back last. Makes sense....

Everyone I know is getting together with family for Mother’s Day. I’m only not doing that bc my parents are both immune-compromised.

Humans are not meant to be kept apart from other human contact for this long a period of time. It was bound to happen

I met a friend for a walk yesterday- it felt awesome. We walked around the high school track for TWO HOURS. Did wonders for my mood, I can't even tell you. Nobody had masks on, but there was plenty of room to space out, nobody was on top of each other.

Re: Long Island: 2 of 7 metrics met for reopening
I didn’t comment on this latest report because I am done. I am so sick of him moving the carrot every ******** day.
This cannot go on much longer. Businesses are going to go under and people will lose their homes. We live with high everything here on LI. It is impossible to continue to live this way without losing everything and living in a box
We were told we needed to flatten the curve. We did. Now what????! We are at the point where we should be opening up more. If you are elderly or immunocompromised , you can PAUSE if need be. The rest of us can wear our masks, be 6 feet away, change our business protocols to make sure it’s as safe as possible and GET BACK TO WORK.
I am furious. FURIOUS.
I am a rule follower. I was all for the pause to help the greater good. But now what? When does it end????
