I kind of don't get it.. we are under an active State of Emergency and I just heard they will be doing a mandatory evac of all residents south of Montauk in Islip.. but most schools still haven't closed? I guess it will happen when it happens!

Im concerned about this as well. They really should close mon and tues to be safe. I mean seriously Im sure some teachers will need to call in for one reason or another. If my childs school closes and I need to call in they need a sub for my classes and Im not sure many subs would say yes. Who knows but i think it might be a mess if they dont close. A lot can change from 8:20am from when we have to report in to 3:30 dismissal time. Then what? Early dismissals are almost worse.

I feel the same way here in NJ. I would much rather they close than have a delayed open or early closure. To me it is just better to be safe.

I'm sure all schools will be closed. It just takes time...
If they're saying stay home, etc. then it only makes sense to not have busses, etc. out and about.

Exactly, even if my district doesn't close, or my office, no one is going anywhere. We are all staying home. I would rather we all take the day and are safely where we need to be from the get go, then start to scramble to get everyone and be out when it starts getting bad.

It's not on there but I heard East Meadow SD is closed. My mom said she got a call b/c she works at one of the schools.

My kids district is closed Monday and Tues.
Still no word yet on my work district and we have a school on the water on the south shore
No one in the house is going anywhere Monday and Tuesday. DH commutes into the city and Bloomberg said MTA is down until Wednesday. DH's boss is following the National Weather Service and NYS State of Emergency posts from CA. He just told all employees to stay home Monday and Tues.

I don't get why most of suffolk has not closed yet. Everything says stay inside. Why take kids and not know you'll be able to get them home if trees or power lines are down? Plus, it's a lot of responsibility to ask teachers to take on. Seems like a no brainer to me.
