Long shot but talk to me about schools on Staten Island...
We are most likely moving back to SI, we have an almost 3 year old DS, so I'd like to keep schools in mind. We are going to rent, so we really can look anywhere..
My DH graduated from Tottenville, he did not have a good experience at all. My SIL Kerry went to St Patricks School right through 8th grade and then Moore, Wagner and Villa (yes, in 4yrs of HS ), my SIL Mary went to St. Patricks and is now a junior at Villa.
My BIL went to PS 10 and now goes to an all boys school I can't remember the name of
My SMIL is pushing St. Patricks b/c she lives literally across the street and will pick DS.
I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around private school...

This is probably so random, but I'm mentioning anyway I know nothing else about this school, but PS22 on SI has THE MOST AMAZING CHORUS EVER! I mean, unbelievable. I believe they have a standing appearance on some television show every Friday and are always on the news and in the papers. I'll see if I can find a youtube video of them. Obviously, as a music teacher, I'm all about the music program For all I know, it could be a terrible school otherwise, but I thought I'd throw it out there

Re: Long shot but talk to me about schools on Staten Island...
I do think there are okay ones on the island.
My little cousins went to 38 in Midland Beach, 3 nice kids, in middle school now...oldest just got 2 full scholarships, one to Sea, one to Moore, and got into Tech.
The other 2 are in sports and doing really well too.
I truely believe its going to be what you put into it. My aunt is a sahm, who volunteered at school for story times and all that. Had kids in extracurriculars.
My sister graduated from New Dorp with a full scholarship to Boston University. She did not want to go to catholic school and sit in religion classes when other classes would look better on her transcript.
Grammer school...25 years ago, I went to st joseph's in rosebank.
More recently, my brother and sisters went to St Christopher's in Grant City. never a problem or issue. My little cousins still go there.
Out of there, one sister did get a partial scholarship to Peter's. Then the other got a full scholarhip to Peter's. From there first sister went to school in buffalo on full ride...2nd sister went to UNC Asheville...full ride. A lot of people talk nonsense about Peters...but if it produces full rides to college..that's the most important issue.
My brother just graduated from Farrell. He is now on scholarship at Utica. My dad went to Farrell, so my parents were VERY into it. Never a single issue. Took the train there every morning and afternoon with 600 other boys. Perfect attendance all 4 years. Loved it.
I am partial to mid shore...Grant City. I have a lot of friends on the south shore...but commuting is an extra 30 minutes.

My BIL goes to Peter's. So I guess I was wrong it was a boy's school
My SILs hangs out with A LOT of Farrell kids
Thanks! We are trying to stay mid-N shore...though there is nice stuff in Annadale..
I hear good things about Wagner and New Dorp, PR and Tottenville not so much
But Chris wasn't the best kid either

Re: Long shot but talk to me about schools on Staten Island...
I grew up in Great Kills, and went to P.S. 32, I.S. 75, and Susan E. Wagner H.S. I had good experiences at all of them. My nephews currently go to P.S. 42, and overall, my sister is happy. My older nephew has some learning problems, and she has had to advocate for him to get what he needs, but she has had a wonderful experience with the principal.
My mom taught at P.S. 30 in Westerleigh, for years, and it was also a good elementary school.

Re: Long shot but talk to me about schools on Staten Island...
I don't know about specific schools, but insideschools.org is a good site with pretty objective reviews. They send reporters into the actual schools and talk to principals, and there is also a way for students and teachers to add addtional reviews.

Re: Long shot but talk to me about schools on Staten Island...
I don't know too much about it, but a friend from college went to St. Anthony's (I think?) for HS. She was one of the top track runners in the nation so apparently they have a great track program, lol. If you want more info about that school I'll be happy to ask her for specifics

Re: Long shot but talk to me about schools on Staten Island...
i would say best public high schools would be wagner or tottenville...
i went to schools on the south shore....i went to ps 4 but i think 4, 36 and 6 are all supposed to be good - i know 6 is one of the newer ones and is supposed to be really nice...
i went to IS 75....i just know IS 75 and 34....my SIL lives in the willowbrook area and some of the public schools in that area are not so nice and she is thinking of private school for my niece and nephew - i don't know too much about that area though b/c i lived on the south shore...
i happen to think that the south shore has some of the nicer public schools but thats just my opinion and i am probably biased b/c that is where i grew up...
i don't think new dorp or port richmond are nice high schools at all b/c of the students but that was back when i was in school which was awhile ago so maybe those neighborhoods have improved and the people have changed...
also i think petrides is supposed to be good but not sure if that is public or private...
my hubby went to st ritas and then moore catholic...i think those are pretty good schools
