Longwood School District

My BIL and family just bought a house here. they have horses, etc. and got a huge amount of property. However, with 2 kids, and one who will probably need services in school, I am in shock that they life Mt. Sinai SD. Any feedback on Longwood? From what i've heard, it;s "not that bad." Thoughts?

Longwood is known for its excellent special ed program, if they have a child that might need special ed they probably made an excellent choice.
Most people that say "its not that bad" have never, lived, worked or had a child attend a school in the in the district & are basing it purely on inaccurate hearsay.
Longwood has excellent sports teams and other programs, the budget always passes, the kids are happy & have great school pride. We have a GREAT library.
If your family is into horses I can see why they would want to live here. Its ideal and the wildlife is amazing. There is way more to a child's overall education and life experience than a school district's reputation.

My siblings and I are products of the Longwood School district! Albeit, I graduated 20 years ago!

I'm a product of Longwood. Although its considered a bad school district, I think that assesment is off base. They have every elective imaginable, great extra curricular programs, AP classes, etc. Being a big school district they have a lot more things for students than other schools. I honestly think it gets a bad rap because its more diverse than most schools on Long Island.

My cousin is having a terrible time with her two children in Longwood. Both receive services, but it is a constant, CONSTANT struggle and this year had to retain counsel to help her

ETA: she herself graduated Longwood too. And her son is 11 and they have had a terrible time with him there.

Thanks for your input everyone! Makes me feel a lot better... although there are always people that have positive experiences and negative experiences. the kids are only 3, but it's definitely something i was concerned about for them.
