Looking at homes, any tips?
Is it better to go look at homes during the week or on the weekends? And if anybody has any tips, we are first time home buyers so any help would be appreciated. TIA

if you have time to go during the week, i say go for it. most people go on the weekends (wkds are good for open houses) so it can sometimes be harder for REA to get keys, etc.

We only looked at homes on weekends. Well, with the exception to one home and of course it was night time. I recommend going to see the house in the daylight.

I think you can check out a house first at night and if you like it, you can go back for a second look during the day.

---You can always search online and see the pictures of the houses and the interior. --You can always go to open houses. --Drive through the neighborhood that you like or that you are searching the house in.....at different times of the day so that you can see what goes on or get a feel for it. --If you go to see a house, take notice of the windows, roof, floors(especially if they have carpet...you want to see the condition of the floors to make sure that a carpet has not been put over to hide any problems). --Look at the appliances (even though you might change them, you may want to see how everything is kept) --Look at how the property is kept as well. --Always look at the house and see the potential that the house might have Good Luck !
ETA>>> Always take into consideration the school district as well.

Be willing to compromise. You may be able to find a house with everything you want but....you might have to give up on a two car garage and settle for one. Know what matters most and go from there. Always check the windows, roof and water pressure, ask about taxes with and with out star.
Keep in mind how important school districts are to you, etc.

See as many houses as you can...above and below your price range to see what amount buys what. This way when you see a great house for your price, you will jump on it immediately!!
Keep in mind...if you think a house is great for the price it's listed at...so do others. Therefore you may have to make a decision quick as a result or you may lose it.

.
That is exactly what we did. We looked at so many houses until we found our house. Then when we saw our house, we just knew it was the one for us.
