Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

When you are looking or looked for an apartment, how did you find it? We will be putting our apartment on the market soon and we were wondering what way was the best. Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

I would do all of the above. Craigslist is free and using a RE Agent is free too (the renter pays the fee). Newsday is the only thing that you really pay for.Chat Icon

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

We first looked in the newspaper and pennysaver and after seeing 3-4 disgusting apartments we decided to go with a realtor. We didn't like paying the fee but in the end it was worth it.

Where's your apartment? How many bedrooms?

I know a couple people who are looking.

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

We started with an agent first, but he wasn't listening to use at all so we said forget it and started looking ourselves in Newsday and that's where we found it.

craigslist, the best becuase there is no broker fee

ETA: no broker fee is good bc then you can charge the renter a little more per month

craigs list

I refused to pay a brokers fee- in Queens it's 1.5 months rent

which is insane to show a person an apartment!

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

Searching through Craigslist was such a headache - so many dead ends and misrepresented apartments. I used a RE agent, and liked that she had at least seen the places first and knew that they were really available and not scary. It was worth it to me to pay the fee and go around with her for one day, see 10 apartments, and choose. We had been looking on Craigslist for 3 weeks before that.

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

We found ours through DHs friend who is a RE. But I refuse to pay the fee again, so I've been looking on Craigslist.

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

I found the last apartment I rented through a real estate agent, but when we rented ours out, we listed in on Craigs List.

Re: Looking for Rental Apartments Question (w/Poll)

As a renter, I would look in local papers.........As a homeowner, I would use a real estate agent. Agents have the ability to screen interested renters. They verify employment and run credit checks...........something I would def. Recommend....best of luck.......

ITA, I personally would NOT advertise on Craig's list. I would do the above.
