Looking to adopt a puppy
Hi! Where is the best place to go to adopt a puppy (under 6 months old) on Long Island? I know about North Shore Animal League (we got our cats there) but curious about other options? Thanks!

Looking to adopt a puppy
We had a great experience with Last Chance Animal Rescue. My parents had a great experience with One Love Dog Rescue. From their Facebook pages it seems like One Love gets puppies more frequently than Last Chance. Our dog was one when we adopted her.

What area of LI are you in? I'm pretty sure every Town has an animal shelter. There are also a lot of foster organizations.
Our current dog was from the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. Our dog before her was from the Riverhead Animal Shelter.
I've been indirectly working with Happy Tails, which is a foster organization. I also know a few other people who work with other foster organizations.

Go to Petfinder.com and sign up to receive daily emails on available dogs. You can customize it however you want...area, age, sex, fur, etc etc. I have a dog and still get the emails just to look at all the cute puppies!

There are a lot of rescues and shelters on LI.
We recently adopted our puppy from One Love Dog Rescue and had a good experience. If you go to their Facebook page they are always posting available dogs/puppies and when they are getting new litters in.
Furbabies is another great rescue on LI.
If you are looking for a certain kind of dog (breed/size) you can let them know and they will keep you updated if one becomes available.
I know there are a lot more but these are the 2 we have had experience with (Furbabies we didn't adopt from but almost did - someone else had their application in before we did and they were a good fit so it was a good thing).
Years ago my DH adopted a dog through Bidawee. He was an amazing dog but that was about 18 years ago.

Just saw this on FB:
Attention all puppy lovers! These little babies came to us a couple of days ago. They were all rescued from a high kill shelter in North Carolina! Come visit Kent and fall in love with a puppy today and possibly take one home ???? (click through the pictures for names and ages)\
OMG I cannot with those faces! 
They are all 2.5 to 3 months old.

You can search on petfinder by putting in your zip code and choosing the amount of miles away. Plenty of local animals will come up.
Just FYI, I help transport animals on their way to a foster/rescue/forever home.
Just because a dog may be local to you now, doesn't mean it didn't already travel far to get to that rescue.
They all need a home and it gives them lots of socialization opportunities.
Two weeks ago the labs I had came from TX to get to RI over 4 days with sleepovers at a different house every night.

We got our rescue from Happy Tails. He is from the Korean dog meat market. He is awesome! I was very impressed with how they run their organization. Highly recommend. And thank you GoldenRod for helping them out!
