Looooong day for a 7 day old**UPDATE...I'M FREAKING OUT NOW*** PLEASE HELP****update #2 on p2
So as soon as they brought me DS in the hospital, I noticed what looked like a little black and blue under the inside of his left eye. I thought it could be a clogged tear duct. Every day the Ped came in, I asked about it and they said they massaged it and that it should be nothing. Well yesterday, we had our 1 week follow up and it nearly tripled in size (big lump under the skin).
The Ped sent us to an ophthalmologist to have it checked out. He tried to push on it to clear it out and nothing happened. He realized it was more than your routine clogged duct. He immediately sent us to an ophthalmology plastic surgeon to have it cleared up.
Turns out there was amniotic fluid trapped in his tear duct by 3 blockages Only way to clear it out was to snake a metal wire through the duct and push everything through. It was awful Ryan howled but made it through like a champ.
So now we have to apply warm compresses and massage the area as often as possible and pray that this worked and the procedure doesn't need to be repeated. He's taking an antibiotic to prevent infection. We follow up on Thurs.
It has been a long day for us all!!! Dh and I had to hold him still while the Dr performed the procedure. I couldn't even look but poor DH watched the whole thing.
Anyone have any experience with this? success stories? things we should be concerned about or looking out for?
And our cherry on top......we get home and Jack has 102 fever and complaining his teeth hurt Let's just hope tylenol does it's trick and everyone looks better in the morning
Thanks for letting me vent and if you have any insight on the eye issue
UPDATE... So I think Jack has cocksackie I am completely freaking out that he's going to give it to the baby and/or DH and myself. Plus I'm now concerned for my elderly/not great health parents who babysat yesterday while we took Ryan to the Dr.
WT H? like the past few days wasn't enough??
I have no idea what to do right now. DH is taking him to the Ped at 10. Do I have to isolate my kids now? for how long? i'm just sitting here in tears

Don't know anything about the eye issue just hoping that it worked and that he's all better soon (both of them).

Re: Looooong day for a 7 day old
I actually do those in my office, we rarely have to repeat it, IF we made it all the way through. It's actually the easier way of clearing it. Some pts of mine need surgery, but that only happens if we didn't clear it in the office. Being so little, it prolly stung a little, but my older pts say they don't feel a thing, they just taste the fluid in the back of their throat.Hopefully it will work for ur lil one, give him some extra hugs mom
ur more then welcome to FM me

Tyler (10 months) had coxsackie last week and miraculously Jack didn't get it. They share a million toys, cups, etc. Thankfully it didn't get passed between the two.
Good luck!
