Loose change collection in the piggy bank...what do you do when it's full?

the piggy bank is full. I am planning on taking it to TD bank and getting the cash but don't know what I should do with it.....

before the boy, I used to save it for vacations, change it into Euro and buy something FABU...but it's in his piggy bank now.

obviously I could deposit it into his bank account, but that sounds WAYYYY to serious for me.

piggy wouldn't like it either.

what do you do with it?

We go the serious route All money/change in his piggy bank both at our house and my parents house is counted, put in coin wrappers and quickly deposited into his bank acct. I actually just took like 15 pounds of change to the bank last week that my dad gave Joshua. "My" piggy bank at my mom and dad's is now Joshua's piggy bank

ETA: It might not seem like it when you start but by the time I went to college, my "piggy bank" added up to enough to pay for a semester at a private university. My dad said it was an easy way to save some extra monye for me. But my parents are savers.

I’d buy him something small and put the rest in the bank. My older daughter (4) is obsessed with carousels, so when we’re somewhere and she begs to go on it for the 5th+ time, we tell her she can if we can take the money out of her piggy bank. She agrees…but we never actually take the money out, though she doesn’t know that. Kind of makes her think about what she really wants first.

i counted it and put it all in his bank account. It will add up over time.

We put it in their savings accounts. They have more than enough crapola to play with and more clothes than they can wear.

I have a family member that puts it in a separate account and uses it for vacation expenses.

We have a 5 gallon water jug that we were using before DS came around. It was a 1/4 full when he was born. Now it is 3/4's full. We will probably get about 1500 dollars out of it. We are taking him to Disney in the fall!

We put it in her account. Hopefully it will help with college.

I had a huge piggy bank that sat on the floor of my bedroom my entire childhood. My dad put the silver change from his pockets daily into the pig. The summer before college we broke the pig and rolled all the change. There was about $5k in there! My dads plan was always to give me the money to spend on all the stuff I needed for college and the rest was for my new college wardrobe!

If you want to be frivolous and looking to buy something that he will get a few years use out of, how about an inflatable bounce house.

We got one for DS last fall when they went on sale, and we've used it quite a bit this year. It only takes about a minute to inflate, and it's a lot of fun. I've even gone in it with DS and bounced around with him. Your nieces and nephews would enjoy it too.

We have this one. Don't be shocked by the price...it was greatly reduced last fall, plus we used the TRU gift cards he got for his birthday towards it.

ETA: I should also say that all of our spare change and piggy bank money goes into DS's bank account. We even cash in our bottles and cans, and that is DS's money too.

I only offered up a frivolous gift b/c you asked.

Why not put the majority of it in the bank, and just take the cream off the top and treat him to a trip to to the ice cream parlor or something like that? If you have $48 in the bank, put $40 in the bank and the rest for a special treat? It's both responsible and fun!

hmmm...I think I will make a happy medium and put it into our vacation account.

the bank is really not all that big, so we are not talking about a lot of money.

ftr, he has a savings account and a 529 that is funded a few times a year. so I DO save.

We do bank account too but we have one for him for his college fun or car money- so it would go in that account- I happen to agree with you- that piggy would not be happy with it going to something boring like school.

We have a family piggy bank that we save up spending money for our vacations.

When the kids were smaller they had their own and we would save some and let them spend some.
