Low grade fever after surgical procedure
We got home from surgery around 2:00 and DS seemed ok just still very foggy and it was his naptime anyway so I put him down for a nap. He just wok eup and felt warm and I took his temp and it was 101.2. The dr. did tell me sometimes they do develop a low grade fever but I called him anyway. He said if it goes above 101.5 I have to bring him to the ER
He just seems so yucky still. He just wants to lay on the couch and watch TV. I am trying to get him to drink but he just wants his binky.
I know a few mom's on here had DC's who had surgery, did they develope a low fever? Were they out of it for the day of the surgery?

Re: Low grade fever after surgical procedure
When we brought Jared home from his hernia operation, he was out of it. In fact, he was out of it for about 2 days. He did develop a low grade fever but we just gave him Motrin/tylenol and he seemed alright.

The dr. gave me a prescription of tylenol with codeine but said not to fill it unless I felt he needed it. Did you give him tylenol w/codeine or plain tylenol? They said I can't give him motrin b/c it can cause you to bleed more. He seems like he is in pain now...he doesnt want to sit up, just kind of lay down.
How high did his fever go? 101?

I gave him motrin twice but he really didn't seem to be in pain so I stopped using it. He went to 101.

Re: Low grade fever after surgical procedure
Ryan had a little more invasive procedure about a month ago.
He was waaaaaaaay out of it for a good 2 days. But he was also taking Tylenol with Codene which I knew was screwing around with him.
I can't say that I ever noticed him developing a fever. Although it sounds like that could be expected.

Re: Low grade fever after surgical procedure
Normal. My son had his tonsils and adenoids out in November and spiked a fever of 104 that night. I was FRANTIC and called the surgeon who told me that small children normally spike fevers after surgery. Its their bodies way of trying to fight.
Try not to be alarmed. Just keep the doctors number handy and Tylenol or Motrin and any pain meds that were prescribed.
