Macys at South Shore Mall Closing?
The Macys on Sunrise in Bay Shore is closing. Nearly everything is discounted, they are not accepting returns and the sign inside the mall has already been removed. Does anyone know what is going to happen to the building? Even during the holidays, South Shore Mall was EMPTY.

I was there the other day and the place was a DISASTER! I did get a killer deal on 2 pairs of boots by rummaging through what was left. DH says the jeans looked like a war zone!!

According to my bil's gf who works there, the will be building a stand alone Macys, like the one that used to be by Manor Lane (where Lowes is now). It will no longer be in the mall.

Somewhat location related....
Did they close down the Boulder Creek over there? Every time I drive by there doesn't seem to be lights, but there are still plenty of cars.

My sister and I just had this conversation. When I saw that the gap and Ann Taylor Loft were gone, that was it for me.
Besides stopping in at VS to buy some undies and L&T for whatever, I have no use for that mall.
Oh and yes, the Boulder Creek is closed over there. The cars you're seeing are for TGI Friday's.
Oh and has anyone noticed the 3rd Precinct has a station there now? It's right next to the door for the JCPenny's Catalog Pick-Up Center.
That mall used to be a decent mall, it has declined so rapidly, it's really kind of sad.

I almost fainted when I saw the Gap closed and it feels like ATLoft was only there a short time. That mall is horrible and sadly I did so much shopping there as a teen. I used to practically live in that Gap in high school. And back then Express and Structure were there too. Depressing...

we use to love BC but than they stopped with the rewards program a few years back and we stopped going. we would stop in maybe 1 or 2 times after and it was always empty
ok olive gardens good with me!!

I thought they were supposed to do this last year. Seriously, that Macy's is so disgusting. The whole place smells like urine to me when I walk in.
I used to go to ATL but now that that's gone I only go to Lord & Taylor once in a while. I don't even know why they put a L&T at that location.
I used to love the South Shore mall about 20 years ago. I remember shopping with my husband our first "dating" Christmas together when Captree Corners was there. It used to be so nice, but now I don't even feel like it's safe -- it's a very rough crowd that runs around there....

I try not to go to that mall at all but I went there right before Christmas at the Disney Store and I was shocked to see a Crazy 8 store just opened (sister store to Gymboree) - totally doesn't fit there lol

I was in L&T in Mid-November and two women who work there were talking about Macy's closing after the holidays. They said the main reason was aspestos and it would be closed for at least 18 months.
As for it moving and becoming a stand alone store they didn't say and I was under the impression that it would going to reopen as a Macys but we didn't get into that much detail.
I wish they would make a stand alone L&T like the one in Garden City!

OMG - I totally forgot about captree corners! That was a long time ago, when the food court had almost nothing. That totally brought me back to my teenage years.
Even though that's a fond memory, I remember the mall being at its nicest about 5-10 years ago when it was at fuller occupancy. It did revitalize from when I was younger.
I agree that the crowd is getting a bit shady.
