Re: Mad Men S3 Premiere - Spoilers
That was his birth I think. He was born to a prostitute and the baby's name was D!ck, get it? The prostitute told his dad, "If you do anything to me (get her pregnant) I'll cut your d!ck off!" Instead, she died and left him with an extra D!ck
And can I say that I was actually disappointed? I felt like it wasn't anything we didn't already know and it was just setting up the same ol', same ol'. Of course I love the show and will still watch, but I left it going, "Ok, AND?"

Re: Mad Men S3 Premiere - Spoilers
Great episode. I love Don, he is too cool.
and yes, that was his birth that he was "witnessing."
The man's wife couldn't get pregnant, she lost the baby and he had to "leave her alone for a while" like the midwife said so he went to the prostitute and got HER pregnant. The prostitute dies, the woman gets the baby.

Re: Mad Men S3 Premiere - Spoilers
I was disappointed that they really didn't explain anything that happened at the end of last season. Don had quit Sterling Cooper when he found out about the merger and that Duck Phillips was taking over creative. They didn't explain how he ended up working there again and where Duck is. Also, I was hoping they would follow up with Peggy after telling Pete about the baby. Oh well, hopefully the explanations will come.

Re: Mad Men S3 Premiere - Spoilers
Don didn't outright quit Sterling Cooper in the finale; he said something along the lines of, "if Duck is running this place, this isn't the kind of place I want to work. I'll be back in on Monday, let me know." (I watched that episode yesterday) So I assumed he came back in on Monday and Duck was gone, so he stayed. And that guy "Bert" got the job but was fired six months later in the S3 premiere and now Pete and Ken share the job.
I liked the ep but wasn't so overwhelmed by it. Maybe it'll take a rewatch.

Ditto and ditto. I was also looking for a Joan and her fiance storyline, but I guess that will come in future episodes.

According to Matt Weiner the creator/director of the show, Joan and Dr. McAwful got married in the off-season. She wanted a Christmas wedding, remember? The last season ended in October of '62 and it's now spring of '63. Poor Joan.

Do you have a link to that interview? I thought Joan said something like she won't be there much longer, which would make sense if she was getting married and stopping working.
Loved the episode! Couldn't figure out if Sal knew what he was calling for with the A/C or if the visit was a surprise.

That's what I was wondering too. When she said she wouldn't be there much longer, I figured she hadn't gotten married yet. Maybe it means she's planning on kids? I don't see that at all.
