Major reaction to shots --
Charlotte had some routine shots tonight -- rabies and I think bordatella or distemper?? Typical yearly shots...
She was FINE (appointment was at 6pm) and then about 10 minutes ago she got hives - big, raised bumps all over her back. She feels hot to the touch and is FREAKING out -- rolling all over the rug like she is SO itchy she can't take it.
I don't know what to do!!!
I email the doc but who knows if he'll get it anytime soon??

I would call your local 24 hour animal hospital and see if they think you should bring her in..

Oh our vet is so great -- he called me right away from his cell !
Vin just ran out to get her benedryl.
She should be fine after taking a dose of that (1/2 tablet) but if not then we have to take her to 24 hr. Commack Animal Hospital (Emergency one) to get a steroid shot -- Doc tried calling it in but none of the Pharm. in my area are 24 hours anymore -- the one right near me used to be but they switched it.  It was so handy having on right here - I'm so sad they took it away.
Waiting for Vin to get back.

Oh good! I can't believe how awesome your vet is! My life would be so much easier if mine had an email address!

phew! just got back with benedryl - gave it to her, waiting for her to feel better!
I hope the Benadryl helped!
Also, I believe you see Dr. Gurtman and this is just another reason why I recommend him/his practice to anyone with a pet. He really is great!

How is Charlotte this morning.
That's so scary. I wish I had seen this last night. I always keep Benadryl on hand. For the kids and for the dogs!

So sorry I forgot to update!
She did wonderful w/ the benedryl.
Thank you everyone for asking.
And thank God for Dr. Gurtman being there for us... saved us time and money and heartache -- we didn't have to take her to the emergency.
It's just weird she has had shots her whole life, she is five, and never had a problem until now. But thankfully she is just fine.

glad your doggie is ok! We also have the vet give Otis a shot of benedryl after his routine shot every year. We have a pug

Glad she is okay. In the future do not give the rabies shot with any other shots within 30 days. That was most likely the problem.
