Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
At first I thought it was teething, but now I don't know so much...
For the past two weeks on and off, she's been waking up screaming, now if you knew my DD she doesn't scream, she whines, etc..but not scream...I've been trying to soothe her by not picking her up etc, but last night she just kept on screaming so I would rock her back to sleep and the second we put her down wide awake screaming...now yesteday and today she's doing this for naps as well!!! She does not have an ear infection as I took her to the ped this week just to rule it out...she def just wants to be held or see me or DH, I think it's really bad separation anxiety, but what do I do???
I don't remember being this bad even as a newborn She went from STTN to this!!!

Ughhh -- we are having the same problem-- my DD is 6 1/2 months. In her defense, she was sick this past weeks with a bad cold and an ear infection, so it was extra bad, but it has been bad before this. Actually, the night we tried CIO for the first time, she woke up really sick! Now I don't know what to do!

Re: Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
We had to CIO with DD..she was up half the night and the naps were ridic...she took weeks of CIO at naps, i am not going to kid but now we have zero probs..occasionally, she will wake at naps but mostly, fine...
7pm bed never get her before 630am unless there is a safety issue, lol...i let her cry..in her defense, she gets motrin bc of teething..she was really sick a week ago but didnt cry in the middle of the night so CIO worked wonders..
Nap-9am, never comes out before 10 and i wake her if past 1030
130nap and she goes until 315 or i wake her..
for nap CIO, i had to let her go 60min before i could take her out, she would go 58 min and then crash..it sucked but we had sep anxiety and all that going on and it just got worse for us....key is to be consistant bc my DD would wake half the night crying...turns out, she goes 12 hour stretches now...

I find with my kids, if its teething you will know it. They have their fingers in their mouths, lots of drooling and their cry is one of pain and frustration. I gave D motrin today and within 20-30 mionutes he was a new kid. Then about 7 hours later he started acting the same way so I KNOW its teething. Gave him more Mortin then his bottle and he wnet to bed no problem. I read once that an adult could not handle the pain of teething without pain killers. I also use Hyland's teething tablets which I think definitely work.
Sometimes I'll even put them to bed with a cold teething ring(I don't know if they use it or not) Lastly while awake..do you have a teething feeder(has a a net attached) I put frozen organic peaches, banannas and grapes in there-they love it and it seems to help
If she is not doing any of these things then I would say CIO.

She's def doing the fingers in the mouth, and more drool, she's also sneezing and coughing and when I took her to the ped he attributed that to teething...she's also playing with her tounge, meaning moviing against her teeth and top "teeth" the ones I think that are coming in...but it's been on and off for two weeks, thats why I'm second guessing myself KWIM...Motrin seems to help intermittenly not always... I also have heard and read that an adult would not be able to take the pain they are going through

Re: Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
My DD had 4 come in at the same time, no fun but the sleep ppl said to me, they teeth for 2 years..can you go 2 years without sleep, i was lik OMG!! What a way to put it but, i give her motrin at night before bed plus Hylands and we have no probs anymore..see how long it lasts but with my DD i always thought it was the teeth keeping her up but turns out sleep deprivation along with mega separation anxiety were my issue

see I think its a combo I think she's def getting teeth, but I also think she's having MAJOR separation anxiety issues too...I know she is bc she used to let DH put her down for bed at night and now she screams her face off if he tries...but I also think her top teeth are coming in to boot...I'm going to try the teething tablets and see if that works...lets see how tonight goes, so far I put her down without a problem tonight which is a first for a few nights....

Re: Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
My DD is going to be 8 mo. this week and last week we had 2 nights like you are describing. Naps were OK though. She, like your DD, is a great sleeper. I was soooo nervous last week. She would wake up SCREAMING and my DD never screams either. Only whimpers at times.
I had also wondered if she was sick because her nose was running and she was sneezing a lot. Well, lo and behold, a tooth arrived a day later and she went back to normal. Thank God!!!
I am still afraid of the separation anxiety thing, because I'm afraid to do cry it out since I haven't really had to so far.
I use Hyland's tablets with her and I think they work pretty well. Good luck!

Re: Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
Living this right now, hence my reply at 12:30am. DS is 8.5 months and he has been waking for a couple of weeks now. After a few days, I did take him to the ped and he did have an ear infection. It was a little better for 2 days then back to the waking everytime I try to put him back down. He is in my lap sleeping right now. I can't really let him CIO at night bc he will wake my 2 and 4 year olds. I have tried at naps but it kills me. I have let him cry up to a half hour. We even took him back to the ped yesterday because I was sure he must be sick again. Nope, he was great, apparently just wants to sleep on mamma. I am exhausted and keep telling myself that I will get sleep in a year! I am praying that a swich is flipped soon in that little head of his and he realizes that sleep is good!

Re: Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
Ugh...she woke up at 10 last night...gave her some motrin and let her cry for 20 mins and slept until 7:15 this morning, which is good..but I don't want to keep giving her motrin...she keeps playing with her tounge touching the top of her gums butttt still NOTHING...I would assume that teething or a tooth coming out wouldn't take this long

it was total sep anxiety..4 nites after cio, we had our 12 hour sleeper again..totally worth it

Re: Major sleeping issues from a child that never had sleeping issues
9-12 months was the only time I ever was sleep deprived!
Once DS started standing, then crawling, then walking sleeping was rough. The only thing that worked was CIO but I didnt feel comfortable doing it until he was 12 months!
GL!
ETA: Does she stop crying the minute you pick her up? For us that was always the sign that DS was doing this just to get our attention.
The first night we did CIO he cried for 1hr 15 minutes!

she totally stops crying the minute I pick her up...she'll let out a few cries after but nothing as crazy as when I'm not there....OY....I don't know if my heart can take this...she was such a good sleeper and doesn't cry until NOW!!!
