Making a house a home
We're moving to our house in a few weeks!!
So I'm wondering, what do you think are some of the details that go into making a house a home? (setup/decoration-wise)

Re: Making a house a home
hahah not have boxes everywhere (our current situation doesn't allow us to unpack and we probably will not unpack until a year in) but i think its all the stuff you always. New is nice and all but sometimes that old lamp in your apartment or that old bookcase makes things so much more like "home" then anything you can possibly buy new.
congrats btw!

For me, it's having photographs up of your loved ones, and adding things that show your personality. For example, I have my collection of dolphin figurines displayed throughout the house. I know some people don't like knick-knacks, but I think they add personality.

Re: Making a house a home
Right after I unpacked everything I went to home goods, jc penny, walmart, khols, bed bath and beyond, & target. For under $200 I found knick-knacks for tables and shelves, candles & holders, wall art, table cloths, a bedding set, sheers & rods, interesting pretty picture frames, vases ... all the 'little' touches my home needed. It was really well worth it (going from 4 rooms in an apartment to 8 in a house, the house was bare!)

Re: Making a house a home
Def a coat of paint, window treatments, lighting & photographs/wall art.
Making a room cozy truly makes it feel like a home.
Candle light does wonders, comfy throw pillows & blankets on a couch also work.
For some reason I feel like window treatments complete a room. It just adds that extra touch that pulls it all together.

Re: Making a house a home
Nice warm tone paints (that is what I like), def put pictures on the walls. I didn't do this until recently and we have been in our house for two years. It feel more comfy in the house now. They also bring life to your home. Candles, decorative pillows, window treatments (not just shades, but add some sort of curtains or sheers to the windows, some decor to bring each room together. I have tons of pictures in my albums, please take a look and see if anything inspires you.
Congrats on your new Home.

Re: Making a house a home
My house felt like i was living in a hotel vs my home till i put up up family pictures. The first six months, i always felt it was so "bare" and not homey...i added pics, and although i don't like clutter, adding some candles, and decorative vases with branches really warmed up my living room.
