my husband thinks I'm gonna kill the kids. Do you think the little colored nonpariel thingies are okay on top of them?

you mean those ball shaped sprinkles, or actual small non parelles (or however you spell it).
I think they might be too much for a 1 year old. Although I am not sure it would kill them

I would not use the silver balls...those are no-nos for little ones.
I would use plain sprinkles.
