mama2b's FET Journal - Final Update 10/1
So I thought I would start a FET journal since I really found my IVF journal helpful...Didnt think I would be here right now but I am going into this FET positive...
Me: 31 DH: 30
We started TTC in August 2011...before we officially started I was off of depo provera for about 1.5 yrs and we used no protection at all....when we finally decided that we were ready I went to see my OB/GYN since I had been diagnosed with PCOS when I was 12...DH didnt want to do anything to drastic when we first started out so we did clomid + TI for 2 cycles w/o being monitored (big mistake)...when that didnt work we decided to be more aggressive and seek out a specialist which I should have done from the beginning... In October I started to go to RSNY (Dr. San Roman) and I did 2 cycles of 100 mg of clomid and IUI which failed...clomid caused me to have a thin lining and I also developed a cyst...I was on a forced break due to the cyst...in the break I switched insurance and decided to seek out a different facility...NSUH (Dr. Hershlag) and I did 4 IUI's with 5 mg of Femara...the Femara did not give me lining issues..I have responded well to both the femara & clomid so I was not put on injectibles...So in total I have done 6 IUI's and all BFN's...during my last IUI cycle I decided to make appt's for consults with different facilities to see which one would work best for us...we decided in the end to go back to RSNY (Dr. Saketos) for various reasons...I had my first IVF last month which resulted in a BFN so I wanted to jump back into it....I had 4 embryo's that are frozen and the plan is to transfer 2 back this time and I hope 1 sticks!!!
Diagnosis: DH - Nothing...sperm like a rock star, lol Me - PCOS and slightly elevated thyroid
Protocol
7/31:
Had my FET consult with Dr. San Roman to go over what went wrong and there really was nothing that he could think of since we had a great embryo and my lining was good...he did say my e2 level was high at trigger time so it may have caused my uterus to not be as receptive to implantation but who knows...he says I can start right away once AF came...I was told it would be really easy since the only meds are estrogen and progesterone...and we could schedule it so he could do the transfer himself.
8/2:
First monitoring appt. went well...I had a couple of small cysts and my ovaries were not enlarged...I start my meds today and I got my calendar...and I only have 4 appts which is amazing but scary since I have no idea what is going on but with IVF your in everyday for monitoring...
Meds: 2 Vivelle Patches every other day until told otherwise
I go back in 7 days to see how my lining is doing...this is scary uncomplicated...
8/9:
I had my 2nd appt and I was a bit surprised that they were not going to do a sono and it was just blood...I got concerned since I have had a thin lining so I asked if I could have a sono to just check and make sure it was thickining up...it was at 5mm so I have some ways to go but at least its getting there...My next appt isnt until 8/21...I was shocked but I am going with it and tentatively my transfer is set for 8/28!!! I am so happy but its just soooo weird to not be getting monitored...I guess this is "easier" but for a person like me who wants to know what is going on its more torture. Oh and while they were doing the u/s it was too funny that the tech could not "find" my right ovary...I said it was there a week ago, lol...I guess my intestine was blocking it...she was pointing out that the pulsation going on was not her but my intestine...really funny..she had me push down on my belly to see if she could get a shot of it but no go...not a big deal since they were not looking for cysts anyway
Meds: Patches 2x every other day
8/21:
Wow I cannot believe that it has been so long since I have been to the RE...when they say a FET has less monitoring they really do mean it...so I had blood & sono...my lining is at 8mm which is good...I was hoping for it to be thicker but it will get thicker in the next 5 days...I go back thursday for another check and I start progesterone...my transfer is set for 8/28 with Dr. San Roman...they also gave me a prescription for Valium ...well I asked for something since I was afraid that maybe the dilation would have wore off or it would be painful...I have never taken Valium so this should be interesting, lol
8/23:
I got the bad news that my lining is not thick enough its only 6.6...so I have to increase my patches to 3 and I go back on Tuesday for blood & sono to see if my lining is thicker...this blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meds: Patches 3x every other day
8/28:
Lining got a little thicker and is at 6.9...so I stopping the patches and starting estrace 2mg vaginally 2x a day...I go back on Friday for blood & sono to see if my lining is thicker
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day
8/31:
Lining stayed the same at 6.9!!! Have to go back on Tuesday for a check again...if it does not increase we will transfer anyway!!!
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day
9/4:
Lining is at 7.6!!! WOOHOO!!! Transfer is set for Monday!!! I start PIO tomorrow and I am soooo scared that this shot is going to hurt as hell!!!
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day
9/5:
I start PIO today and it was not as bad as I thought it would be...DH is enjoying it but I am kinda happy that he is more involved in my cycle since he has to give me the shot.
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day PIO - 1ml per day
9/10:
Today is my transfer!!! We transferred 2 blasts and now we have 2 left in the freezer...I took my valium before the procedure and I thought I would feel the effects more but it didnt do much for me...the dr. had a little issue getting the catheter in but there was no issue with the transfer and I didnt really feel too much. I go back tomorrow for progesterone check and in a week for my beta!!!
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day PIO - 1ml per day
9/17:
Took a home pregnancy test and it was positive!!! Beta is scheduled for 9/19!!!
9/19:
Got my beta results!!!
HCG = 171 p4 = 14 e2 = 818
I go back on friday for a repeat!!!! I am so happy for such a strong beta!!! I hope it doubles!!!
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day Progesterone Suppository - 3x a day
9/21:
Got my beta #2 results!!!
HCG = 362
I am so happy that it doubled!!! Next appt is on October 1st for our 1st sono!!!
Meds: Estrace 2mg 2x a day Progesterone Suppository - 3x a day
10/1:
We had our first sono this morning and we are having one I could sense the relief on DH's face...we are beyond ecstatic!!!
DREAMS DO COME TRUE!!!
Hope + Faith = BFP!!!

Re: mama2b's FET Journal
It does sound simple.... and relaxing! I hope that you do get to be laid back and relaxed moreso, knowing that there is nothing wrong. Keep zen! That will give your embies a soft plush bed to settle into!

Good luck!
From my experience, you shouldn't need valium at all. The transfer takes 2 minutes and is completely painless.

I have issues with my cervix from 2 procedures...they were not able to do the mock transfer since they couldn't get the catheter in and when I was having the retrieval done they dilated me...I would rather be relaxed so there are no issues with the transfer.

Good Luck!
I took a valium for both of my transfers. The onyl side effect I had was extreme sleepiness. I came home and slept for like 3 hour each time and then was still able to go to bed at a normal time. I have no idea how people take this medicine and function.
