Marathon training
I am running my first marathon this November. I am training on my own- but would love some advice. Does anyone have a website/chat board for marathon training? Thanks!

Re: Marathon training
Hi, are you doing NYC? I am. This will be my second, but it's been 5 years and I now have children, so it should be interesting with regard to the training. I too am training on my own and will most likely be using Hal Higdon's novice 2 schedule. You really can't go wrong with his schedules, he is very well known. I browse Runnersworld forums often, there are several boards related to marathoning. I find them to very helpful, although sometimes a little intimidating if the people replying think they know everything! I just ignore them
Good luck w/ your training!!

i second that recommendation :) i will be doing my 6th NYC and do not have loads of time to train since i work f/t and have 2 little ones. the H. Higdon plan might not make you crazy fast but it is totally do-able and you will complete the marathon distance for sure by following it- which is always my goal since i'm not a fast runner and i don't care to be. another good thing is that i feel that plan also is easy on your body so you're not nursing injuries all the time. the only other advice i can give too is just to not over-do the training. i know so many people who go out there with all of this enthusiasm and make the mistake of doing way too much too fast and wind up never getting to the starting line. other than that-enjoy the training experience. remember that when it gets hard (those crazy long runs towards the end) that the NYC is going to be one of the best experiences! it is a great thing to be a part of! good luck and enjoy!!
