IMO, you are now equals (once your married) and not seperate paying for half of stuff. I know people have there systems (and i respect that 100%) but to consider mines and yours is not yours and mine...whats the point of being together if you still treat each other as seperates?

thank you for your advice but even though we are both equals, i also want to be an individual

we'll each keep our own checking and savings account
and we will soon open up a joint checkings and ING account for house and family purposes...

i dont believe he should pay for my student loans and my expensive shoes as i dont blieve i should pay for his quads and rifles

Re: Married girls with wedding bands

Hmmm, well, we both had our money in the same account at that point, so we both paid for it, but I would say in your case, just talk to him about it. I tend to feel like men spend so much money on engagement rings that if a wedding band is a ton of money, footing some or all of the cost is a nice gesture. KWIM?

WOW. People's wedding bands were expensiveChat Icon

We paid for his out of our money and mine was free since it was my grandmother's. It did have to be stretched a tiny bit, but since we were buying DH's ring the jewelry store did it for free.

Well, don't be surprised if you offer to pay and he's so outraged at the thought of his future wife paying for her own wedding band that he goes out and buys it for youChat Icon Chat Icon

once we were engaged, it was "our money", even though we had not merged our accounts yet.

we stopped calling it "my money" as soon as we started planning the wedding. it just made sense for us.

and my w-ring was 10x more than DH's. he didn't care. Chat Icon

Re: Married girls with wedding bands

We owned a home together by the time we got married- so we only had "our" money. My ring easily cost 10x what his did. Thank God because his slipped off his finger swimming in Jamaica on our honeymoonChat Icon .

Mine stayed in the safe the whole cruise..Chat Icon
