Masking and children
I dropped my two littles off for daycare/school this morning (ages 2,4) and am sick over the fact they are mandated to mask. At the risk of this turning into a drama thread had anyone contacted the governor’s office? When will this end? There is no science supporting this. Kids that age shouldn’t be in masks-it’s a form of child abuse.

Re: Masking and children
I'd be furious if my 2 year old had to be in a mask. But I doubt you'll get anywhere with the governor's office- they are the ones pushing it. We unfortunately are stuck with it in this state. They act as if 2 year olds are death vectors.... It's fuking insane Next they will be masking newborns a they emerge from the womb
And how do they even keep a mask on a 2 year old all day? My DD wouldn't even keep a hair bow in at that age.

Masking and children
We have a group in my area that have been contacting every public official daily for months now. It does nothing.
While I am personally against masking any children, masking the youngest is absolutely abuse. Also it makes no sense since they have not been masked for the last 18 months and now it's an issue? Follow the science they say...this is not science it's politics.

Re: Masking and children
OMG I saw the video on fb this weekend and it was horrible.
These people are insane that are making this mandatory. There is NO way these kids, especially at 2 will keep a mask on.
Bunch of hypocrites who don't wear masks themselves. People need to start fighting back. I just saw a quick video of people in Australia fighting back. It is all getting ridiculous.

Ugh I just contacted Kaminsky and my assembly person. Their offices are a quick drive for me so I might pop in to see if there are any warm bodies to talk to.

Re: Masking and children
They tired to do it for that age group before cuomo left and they quickly overturned it wonder why they agreed to it again!
You should call the governor’s office and write to them with the complaints!

Masking and children
There is literally no evidence that masking children has any effect on numbers.
I have been supportive of masking adults, but this age is just ridiculous.

Re: Masking and children
I wrote several messages to the governor about this. I am sick about it as well. I honestly feel like it's a power play on her part. She is new and wants to assert her power. It's all so unnecessary. My kids have been in daycare throughout the entire pandemic without masks and without a single case. When I tell you my anxiety is through the roof about this, I'm not lying.

Any daycare provider with an ounce of sense or compassion won't be too strictly enforcing this I would hope. Their only concern would be an inspection but daycares are locked up tighter than fort knox. You see someone trying to get in, you should have time to mask up the babies before you let them in. Disgusting actually

Re: Masking and children
Easy solution. They should just setup daycares like they set up the Emmy Awards. Then we would not have to worry about covid or masks or distancing at all.

I’m for masks but even this (masking 2-4 year olds) crosses the limit for me.

But weren't they all vaccinated and tested to enter the Emmy's?

Masking and children
I was in the school in a classroom full of children with special needs. 3rd grade. None of them were capable of keeping their masks on, they were coughing and sneezing all over. I of course had my mask on, but I can tell you that I was 100% uncomfy in that setting. So I imagine it comes down to the daycare workers and their safety, maybe.

Then they should get vaccinated, or stop working with young children.

The daycare workers at my children's school are all very much against this and hoping it gets overturned like last time. These are people who love children and hate to see the kids struggling and upset they have to keep their faces covered for 8 hours a day. They have been working with these children for the past 18 months and they know my 3 year old is not going to kill them with a sneeze. Plus they are all vaccinated.

I don't know then. I mean, I was saying maybe it comes down to the state trying to keep them safe also? I imagine people aren't complying anyway. It's very easy to just defy the rules in the daycare setting since no one is watching their every move. And if the state pops in, plenty of time to throw the masks back on.

Re: Masking and children
My youngest has been wearing a mask at daycare since she turned 3 due to the requirements in my state. They don’t wear them while eating or sleeping and within the past several months, we could give written permission for the kids to not have to wear them outside.
It has been over a year with wearing masks. I wasn’t thrilled about it at first, but most kids seem to adapt really easily. There was a transitional period as well to get the kids used to it. I think it also helped for them to see everyone else in masks. At the beginning, it was difficult to get her to keep it on even if we went places where masks were required. Once she got used to the mask, she began putting it on without any issue. She doesn’t complain about wearing it.
Unfortunately, we have had positive cases at daycare throughout the pandemic. I’m unaware of any transmission between kids at daycare though. After going months without a positive case, we have had a few in the last month in different age groups. My child is currently home due to being in direct contact with someone who tested positive at daycare. All of my kids have been in quarantine at some point due to exposure, but I was most nervous about this one because kids that young seem most likely to not wear their masks correctly. She’s past the quarantine period and has had a negative test and we’re just waiting for her daycare room to reopen. I don’t know if kids this young just have a lower viral load and are less likely to spread the virus, if the masks actually worked or it’s a combination of the two. Regardless, this past year, the masks have certainly cut down on all of the colds/viruses that usually go around.

I'm actually worried my 3 year old is going to get sick more often now that she'll be dropping her mask on the floor and putting it back on her face. And the teachers will constantly be touching her face to put her mask on. There will be a lot more touching of her face now.

It's so gross. They'll be sneezing into the masks and then wearing them like that all day, drooling in them (the little ones), touching them, swapping them with friends, having them all over the floor. It's unsanitary and totally gross and someone who is aware of SCIENCE and perhaps a medical professional should step in and tell this assh0le governor of ours just how dangerous this is.

I saw some good ones on Amazon. They even have the mesh one's which are hysterical. If I had a 2 year old, I'd be putting them in that. Like Fishnet Come after me...call the police.
