Maternity Leave-very excited
I'm not pregnant with number 2 (yet) but I just got the best news. My company increased our maternity/paternity leave from 8 weeks to 12 weeks! It is 100% paid and starts in Jan. DH and I work for the same company so we would both get it. I am so excited-I thought our plan was good before, this is even better. Of course, now I actually have to get pregnant with another baby (minor caveat, to be rectified in a few months I hope).

Re: Maternity Leave-very excited
the same thing happened with me when I got pregnant..in January of 2007, my company changed the maternity policy and paid me an extra 4 weeks at 100% after disability ended so I got paid 8 weeks at 100% and 4 weeks at 80%

Sweet!!!! I would love that! And they will let you and your husband take the leave at the same time?

Awesome news! I know it kind of eases your mind about planning #2.
My company also increased our maternity leave to be paid at 100% for 8 weeks, then we're entitled to FMLA for the next 4 weeks during which we're able to utilize our vacation time.
Time to plan #2! For me not until next summer

Yes! It's a big company and we work in different departments so no conflict from a staffing perspective. Also, when we had DD we weren't sure if we were both allowed to take it (we thought maybe it was double dipping) but we checked with HR and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we could. I wish we could take it back to back, so we would be home a total of 6 months but you both have to take right after the birth. But that's okay-it was great to have someone else share the 2 am and 4 am feedings in those early days.

Re: Maternity Leave-very excited
Thats great news! Right after I went back to work last year the UK government has increased our Statuatory Maternity Pay to 9 months, I only had it for 6 months! I had a full year off, but 6 of those months were unpaid...so with the next baby I get paid for 9 months!!! (its about $230 a week) but its pretty good!

Maybe this summer for us, at least TTC-who knows how long it will actually take.
