May 4th communion - too early for a backyard party?

Ds's 1st communion is May 4th. My tiny house has no dining room and a small living room so having party inside is impossible.

It will be a small party - maybe 18 at the most - so well under most catering minimum.

Add to this DS's food allergy - he wouldn't even be able to eat the food at the party anyway.

So, all that's left is a backyard party.

Do you think May 4th is too early for outside?

I have no idea what to do Chat Icon

DS had his Communion last year on May 5th. It was kind of a dampy, drizzly, cool day. We wanted it to be a back yard event, but it ended up being inside since it was a chilly day. I think the next day was sunny and gorgeous, so it really just depends. It can be beautiful that time of year and a definite go for an outside party, but you never know the weather.

I'd certainly plan for outside, but have a tent maybe? A patio heater? You may luck out with a gorgeous day anyway!

We had one on May 1st and got very lucky that it was a nice sunny, warmer day.

I would be prepared for the worst but hope for the best Chat Icon

I think it's fine as long as you plan on having a tent.

I think it's fine...rain could be a problem so I agree with the tent. We were going to have ours at home (with about 60-70 pp) outside as well. The way I figured it was people will know it will be chilly so they will dress appropriately. In the end we decided to have it out because Dh didn't want to have to worry about doing everything.

Definitely rent a tent just in case it rains, but usually around that time of year it will be beautiful outside!

You can always rent heaters too for inside the tent.

This! I would plan for a backyard party and unless it's pouring you should be fine! The extra money you may have to spend on tents and heaters will probably just even the party out with a catering hall...

2 years ago I had a backyard party on May 2 and the weather was perfect. I did not get a tent.
