Maybe this was asked before - home owners insurance food spoilage
I found out that my home owners insurance will pay up to $500 for food spoilage in the event of a power outage as long as the outage was due to the failure of equipment (such as lines, etc). I am gonna have my hubby call the insurance agency tomorrow to find out what the deal is but I was wondering if anyone knew about this., or had experience with this.
Thanks!

Yes. They may ask you to make an itemized list of everything that was in your fridge/freezer. They may also ask you what type of fridge/freezer you have and to provide photos. That's what I had to do in the past.

if that is your only claim, I would think twice about submitting it as your rates might go up next year because you made the claim. I realize they increase every year, but when claims are made I feel like they have a larger % increase....

From what I have read, and what I *think* it says in my policy if it is the only claim I am making it is not subject to the deductible.
