Mean girls
I hate how little girls treat one another, I really do
As most of you know, Alex is in hebrew immersion in the mornings. She's the youngest in class, though she does have a good friend in that class, Darcy, whom she adores. Darcy is, however, considerably older than she is, and has befriended another older girl, Becca.
So when I picked up Alex from school yesterday I was asking how her day went and who she played with, and when I asked about hebrew immersion, she started pouting and said that Darcy and Becca wouldn't play with her, and they hurt her feelings
The class is small - there are only 5 kids - I asked if she played with anyone else and she said no, she had to play by herself
Is it wrong of me to have an instinct to walk over to that school right now and smack those two little girls? I know, I know, it's normal 3-4 year old social interaction, but still, I don't want ANYONE hurting my little girl's feelings!

Re: Mean girls
I know i would feel the same as you do. No one wants their child to be left out. Its sad how all kids boys and girls get this way with each other.. it starts at such a young age its sad.

Re: Mean girls
I actually remember being in your DD's shoes - a little girl told me I couldn't play with her because I was only 3 and she was 4. It's funny now in retrospect but it wasn't at the time!

Re: Mean girls
It breaks my heart-but you are right, totally normal at this age (and for a while, if I remember correctly ) to Alex.

Re: Mean girls
Oh I feel this way a lot - some of the stories DD tells me about school breaks my heart...I hate when she feels left out (although it doesn't seem to bother her as much as it bothers me)...
I worry for her when it really DOES mean something to her...
I get teary eyed just thinking about it...and now I have two DDs, so double the worry, double the pain...
And I feel the same way you do...just want to smack 'em LOL

Re: Mean girls
Boys do it too!
I can't tell you how many times I wanted to give Tyler, Matt, Christian, Jimmy, Gavin or Brian a piece of my mind!
Fortunately the recovery time from social trauma seems to be roughly equal to how long it takes you to give them a hug and a special treat. They are over it before I even get the chance to relate my own sad sack playground stories!
And the next day? BFF with the original offender again. *sigh*

Re: Mean girls
Ugh tell me about it!!! When DD comes home from kindergarten and tells me about stuff like this I get the same way! I wanna rush over there and beat someone up! I HATE when she is upset by other kids....... nothing we can really do though unless of course it gets really bad... that's life... and all we can do is be sure to teach them good ways to get through it.

Re: Mean girls
DD#1 was called fat and stupid on the first day of kindergarden... so I definately understand wanting to go up there and smacking someone

Re: Mean girls
I hate it too! I so want to walk in and say something, but I told Julia to not just stand there and take it, to say something!! and I'm glad she has that little tough side to her when she needs to use it!
