Meat eaters that love animals.....

I was so offended last night, I was working and talking to this regular customer about trying to find a kitty for my sister.

She told me about some pet shop that sells them. I asked her if they sold puppies too and she said yes. So i was like "oh thanks, but i dont buy from shops that sell puppies, im sure ill find one eventually"

and she asked why and i very briefly just told her what a puppymill was and said i didnt want to support them...


so then she goes "But you eat meat dont you?"

she looked at me like as if she were calling me a hypocrite.




now, i was like "i dont"

BUT what does eating meat have anything to do with puppymills?
how is that hypocritical??
why would it be a BAD thinfg if i DID eat meat?

i found that ppl often say that to me, "but do you eat meat?"
whenever some kind of animal discussion comes up.

no, i dont, i chose not to... but i would never look down upon someone who does.... especially someone who does other things and obviously loves animals.

im just curios uf anyone else ever gets asked questions like these and how you repsond and feel about it?

I eat meat, never got asked those questions, but i don't see what one thing has to do with another. What does puppy mills ahve to do w/ eating meat?

This is just an idea but certainly not an absolute.

I think it is probably because some people equate animal lovers with vegetarians and may see PETA as militant in their methods to stop cruelty to animals. Some just want to play devil's advocate, giving animal lovers a hard time.

I think people can justify eating meat for nutrition and sustenance though there is evidence that a meat-free existence provides an adequate diet.

HOWEVER

I don't think ANYONE can justify the cruelty to animals in puppy mills.

I am a meat eater and I will always be a meat eater until and unless a doctor tells me not to be for medical reasons. That doesn't mean I would support a business that deals with puppy mills.

A hypocrite would be someone who is against puppy mills, but eats puppies. Right?

I don't think it makes you a hypocrite. No one ever said anything like that to me. I wouls just ignore it.

Well, i think wearing fur and leather and meat eating are more closely related.

I think he/she was trying to get at the fact that a lot of meat produced in the U.S. today is mass produced in large, full-capacity slaughterhouses. The animals are usually raised there in awful conditions and then, once big enough, slaughtered.

That's the only connection I could think of, but generally, I don't really think one has to do with the other.

but what if she said that to a meat eater,..... would she scoll them?

i just find it interesting ppl make the assesment in THEIR mind what you have to be.

does that make sense?

Im not sure what that has do it with the other. I really would never thing of them together.

I do find that people who are against fur but wear leather hypocrite

I think some people are just uncomfortable when you make choices that contradict their own. It seems like attacking you is a way for them to reassure themselves that they are right and you are wrong.

I also think when you do things that are considered alternative or counter cultural that it challenges them to think about things they might not want to think about.

Either that or they are just closed minded. Don't let it bother you.

Eating meat has nothing to do with puppy mills.

Unfortunately a big part of the human diet is meat, chicken, and fish. Some chose not to eat those things and so be it.

But there is no reason why animals should be breed and in-breed for the sole purpose of making a quick buck. These animals get abused and some have horrible lives.

As mean as it is, a cow is born for the sole pupose to feed people. They have a short time on this planet and are not forced to stay in tiny cages and be beaten. Although I do wish there was a better way to kill them, but what are you gonna do??

I would think her agrguement would be why are puppies more valuble then cows, etc.

Why care about how puppies are treated versus how other animals are treated that we eat.

I personally think its pushing it too far, but I see why she thought that maybe, although its far fetched.

My issue is with people who support NO animal testing but eat meat. Why is it not OK to test on a rat ( and yes, possibly hurt and torture them) but it is ok to hurt ( kill) and torture other animals to eat? But that might open another can of worms
