Re: Meat eaters that love animals.....
I face this inner conflict: I absolutely ADORE animals - I can't even watch Animal Rescue on Animal Planet because I cry. HOWEVER, I do eat meat... I'd LOVE to be a vegetarian, but every time I try, my body CRAVES that type of protein. I get upset with MYSELF over this...

Re: Meat eaters that love animals.....
She was trying to get to you by insinuating that you can't eat meat yet be against animal cruelty which is not the case, IMO.
I eat meat but I would never support puppy mills. I wear leather, but I don't wear fur. To some that may be being a hypocrite but I see it as doing what I can. Some people have this "all or nothing" mentality where they believe that if you aren't militant about what you believe (like some PETA people) then you are a hypocrite. They can't accept that a little bit of positive is better than all negative.
So if you are against cruelty to animals, you should be the highest level vegan. Meanwhile, I feel that even though a person like me might wear leather, if I refuse to buy fur, there is still some positive there because that is one less person supporting the fur trade.

i feel the same way. i wish i could be totally vegan. i have cut out so much of my diet- beef, pork, and veal especially. just on the basis of what they do to these animals (especially the US agriculture system) is awful. and all the additives that they put in meat.
but then i still eat chicken, turkey and a lot of fish. also diary products and eggs as well.
i wish i could stop it all b/c of the cruelty, but i have no idea how to stop. my body needs proteins and some milk.
i will not wear fur, but i do have some leather shoes. i just saw the things they do to cows for leather .
i do try to by organic meat and cage free eggs, so i try my best, but i dont what else i could do.
for those that became full on vegans, how did you do it? did you feel a lack of energy from certain foods? what are some things you have done and foods you have eaten to feel energetic without eating meat? i cant stand tofu.
eta: i am in australia now, so i assume the meat production is a bit better than in the US, but i cant find much info.

Don't beat yourself up over this. I adore animals too, but eating lean meat is quite healthy for you. I completely respect vegetarians though.
Some people, like myself, actually can't become vegetarians. If I did, I would actually starve to death...literally. That may sound really strange to some, but I have such a limited diet. The only vegetable I can tolerate are carrots and potatos. I can barely eat any fruit at all. It's a health problem, it's not because I don't like it...I actually love the taste of a lot of fruits and I get depressed a lot because my issues have limited what I can eat so much, that I really don't enjoy eating anymore. If you are interested in something a little more humane, I believe if you opt for kosher meats, the animals are treated more humanely. Correct me if I'm wrong about that. My mom buys kosher poultry.

i see both sides btw, im just playing devils advocate.
and just tyring to figure out why ppl say hte things they do
I know sometimes I will see a person having opinions that I believe are conflicting... which in turn makes me value their opinion a lot less. For example (this is my opinion, not judging anybody) there are people who preach about not wearing fur or leather IMO it seems like they should not want to eat meat for the same reasons. I'm not going to say they are wrong for eating meat, but I will definitely not take them as serious in the future, because it seems like they don't fully believe in their "beliefs". does that make any sense?
Maybe that woman felt the same way about puppymills and meat-eating... somehow it is related to her. Or maybe she was being defensive.
no i totally understand.

i think its fair to say i agree with everything youve said here.
I think that any positive is a great thing.

Re: Meat eaters that love animals.....
i feel hypocritical becuase i am NOT vegan.
i know its selfish, but i could NEVER give up cheese. but thats not all of it. i dont like vegetables. (i know, i know) the only veggies i can eat are corn, cookedn carrots and potatoes. (i normally dont call myself vegetarian, i just say i dont eat meat)
i think being vegan would just be soooo hard to do. eating out, eating at your familes and friends houses.... etc etc.
i HAVE given up milk (i drink soy) but if thats all that is avilable i will have milk products if there is no other option.
i DO get vegan cheeses when possible. (obviously my fancy stinky cheeses do not come vegan--- but i talk to the salesppl about where it comes form, how its manufactured, etc)
i try to get soy ice cream as opposed to regular as much as possible as well.
BUT......... i still eat some seafood and eggs.
i am trying to ween myself off, but last time i went no meat i got enemic so i really want to make sure that i am HEALTHY.
eggs i never even thought about to be honest but i would have no problem giving them up if i needed to. i should probably research that.
