medicated IUI vs IVF with natural killer cells
just got my results and dr b sayid my natural kller cells came back higher than hes seen in a long time. he suggests medicated IUI for a couple cycles or going straight to IVF depending on what I decide monetarily. Can anyone that has gone through this give me your opinions and stories of how this went and what you suggest..?? TIA.

I'm sure you're glad you have some answers, but I'm sorry it has to be this
I don't have experience with this, but if he suggested medicated IUIs, than there must be a possibility it will work. is IVF covered by your insurance? If not, maybe give the medicated IUI a try and if it doesn't work move on to IVF.
good luck

Re: medicated IUI vs IVF with natural killer cells
Hi- Well, yes and NO.
I had been seeing a different Dr. and have tried 2 IUI's w/ injectables. Those failed.
I switched to Dr. B who discovered I have the natural killer cells. I have many other issues as well, so we've decided to move to IVF.
For ME, I feel that the IUI's would've have worked and the other Dr. didn't know of all my issues. So, who's to say that if these issues were treated properly, that the IUI's would've worked?
I do trust Dr. B and I would go with what he suggests.
Good luck!!!!

Activated Natural Killer Cells don't effect you getting pregnant they effect you staying pregnant. IUI or IVF is something you need to consider but your NK+ wouldn't really change the success or failure rate of either one.

thats probably why other dr's say its so xcontraversial. because say you have it; ok, so now what? theres nothing to fix it. u have it. so they have to do an iui or ivf on me anyway becaus eim not getting pregnant and i have endometriosis. so doing the test and seeing it was positive changed nothing about a plan then right? does this make sense?

Well, Dr. B will probably put you on prednisone and Intralipids to help 'calm down' your immune system. It is controversial but I know you will find a few girls on here that swear that is what kept the pregnancy going.

They treat NK+ with prednisone (which I currently take, depending on where I am in my cycle the dosage changes) and they also treat with intralipids thru IV. Dr B wanted me to start doing thos monthly, but after discussing things with him and doing some research on my own I decided to hold off on that until I am actually pregnant. At about 500 a pop its not cheap.

this is what he wants me to do with the IUI and i am nervous because i dont even know what intralipids are and prednisone; what does that have to do with pregnancy? its a steroid and has so many side effects.

I went thru all the same emotions. I know I did a few posts about it if you want to search intralipids or natural killer cells. The responses were very helpful to me. As for the prednisone I was petrified of taking it, but I am on such a low dose, its not bad. A little irritable and bloated, but nothing horrible.

Mich-prednisone is supposed to work from what Dr. B and my rheumy told me to suppress the killer cells from attacking-it is a corticosteroid and can actually be very beneficial if your immune system is attacking things other than what it is supposed to. I have been on it for a LONG time now-since Nov. Dr. B increased my dose, and on the dose they use, the only real side effect I notice is puffy cheeks. If you want to know anything about prednisone, FM me or text me later-I have become an expert on prednisone and side effects-oh another one is you may find that you are really hungry a lot.
