meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
i have PCOS and dont O regularly due to high LH levels.
i did clomid 50mg last cycle and had another anov cycle.
today is cd3 so i got to the dr. tomorrow morning to start this cycle. i believe i will be doing a combo of femara with gonal-f injectables and a trigger shot if necessary. at this point i plan to do timed intercourse assuming the meds actually get me to O.
i know most people that use injectables do it for IUI or IVF. i feel like since i have only Oed once in the 8 months ive been off the pill, i havent had a fair shot for DH and i to conceive "naturally." obviously its not natural for me, but i just dont want to go through unnecessary procedures and $$ (i dont have any infertility coverage) since I know the biggest problem right now is me and not DH (he is having his SA this week).
does anyone else on here have experience using injectables to induce ovulation and then doing timed intercourse? what were the results? TIA!

Re: meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
I just wanted to say good luck. I have never heard of anyone doing timed BD with injectibles. I've only heard of ppl doing this with clomid. I guess usually by the time you get to this stage you've tried other methods and are just ready to get the show on the road quicker. I suppose in theory timed should work with inject meds too. Guess the IUI just gives you better odds, but honestly not that much more. I think normally a couple has a 10-15% chance of getting pg in a cycle and I think the IUI brings it to 20%. Anyone with better numbers please chime in...going strictly on memory. I could be totally off but the gist of it is correct.

Im 28 and DH will be 30 at the end of the month. Dr. B said it’s a personal choice – he didn’t really push IUI either way although he said obv. It does increase the chances of it working. But he agreed that since my issue is more with ovulation, it’s not a waste to do a timed intercourse cycle with the meds (only change is from gonal-f to follistim).
Just wondering if anyone at all has any experience using this kind of protocol without IUI or IVF.

Re: meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
If you can afford it I would do the IUI. Gives you a better chance.
Frankly if I was shooting meds into me I would want the best chance I could get.
Your age isn't a factor so your chances with IUI do improve.

thats the problem - i have no coverage on anything so i figure ill try one meds cycle first and hopefully in january i will have a new job and possibly better insurance and then i can move to IUI assuming i dont get a BFP.
plus since we are young and havent had much of a chance to amke it happen the old fashioned way since i dont O much, im OK with using one cycle for trying it with timed BD, assuming that DH's SA is normal (he's going this week for it).

Re: meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
DH and I have done Clomid with timed BD and we have done injectibles and IuI with trigger. Didn't combine injectibles with BD because it's been a rough rid with injectibles and Triggering so we just wanted to do it all out (upon recommendation of our DR.) and we have coverage. Our issue on top of my PCOS is that DH has low SC. I hope your DH has a great SC. Good Luck.

Re: meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
I went to NSUH and did IUI w/ injectables, round 1 failed, round #2 BFP w/ twins. I did have insurance cover the IUI, but if we didn't I asked how much $, I don't think it was that much$, maybe $300-$500 per round, and the injectables (bravelle, lupron and ovidrel) would have been $4,000 out of pocket. Good luck

Re: meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
well i guess it appears im sort of a test subject on this one!!
hoping and praying for a BFP! we really dont have the money to shell out for IUI's or IVF yet. i am hoping to maybe have a new job next month that would maybe have better insurance.. but i wont know until tomorrow at the earliest if i will even start in january...

Re: meds/injectables without IUI/IVF
I am not at that point yet....still using Femara and timed intercourse, but my RE did mention injectibles with timed intercourse as an option. I think it just depends on what you are comfortable with and how much you want to spend on each cycle. My insurance doesn't cover anything either, so I feel your pain!
Good luck!!!!
