"Meeting" Today with my doc to talk about Delivery
At my last appt, I started to ask some questions about delivery-- what to expect, etc., and he told me I needed to set up a separate appt to discuss. Anyway-- that's today!
I am trying to compile a list of questions-- and I have a few-- but thought I would post to see if anyone else had some ideas!
This is what I have... 1- Asking for pre-registration forms
2- Which # do I call when I think I am in labor, same # after hours?
3- Will the hospital reconsider sending me home depending on where I live?
4- At what point during labor do you show up at the hospital?
5- What happens if you are not on call?

I'd also ask if they have the info to set up the hospital tour. That eased A LOT of my anxiety about the big day. Definitely worthwhile doing this IMHO.

along the lines of question #5, i would ask who else (besides your actual OB) might deliver you. who does your OB share call duties with, if anyone? most OBs nowadays share with other OBs in their practice, and some practices even combine with other practices to share call duties. that, for me, would be the #1 question.
also, if you've put together any kind of birthing plan, now would be the time to review it with your OB.

already did that... so, this is just about the actual delivery, medical care, etc.

I asked him about the birth plan. He said, it was not worth it put together because so many things can change/happen.... and nothign will be done without my permission. So, I think it's more about DH knowing what I want-- so, he can answer for me if I can't.
I know I still also have to meet other docs in the practice-- didn't know about *sharing* on call duties!!

Re: "Meeting" Today with my doc to talk about Delivery
I would ask if it's a teaching hospital??? When I got the epidural there was a lovely anesthesiologist, quite experienced and really proficient, you could tell. BUT they were letting his intern do the actual epi, I kid you not she looked about 16 and more nervous than I was. I discreetly asked if the "old" doc could perform it, I just didn't want something else to worry about! So your ob won't do the epi if you get one, but you might want to ask if you can specify that its done by the resident....

yup... i would check about that. where i live in north carolina it's common practice. so my OB practice has 5 docs, and they share call duties with each other and with a whole OTHER practice with another 5 docs.
so any one of 10 docs could theoretically deliver my baby. i don't like the system at all... but hey, if i were an OB, i wouldn't want to be on call 24/7 either. so i can see both sides...
anyway, yeah, i would ask about it...

I don;t think my practice would share with another practice-- especially since they want you meet with everyone. I think I would know that by now... but I guess a resident could theoretically deliver the baby if NONE of them are available. My practice is also located at the hospital-- so they may be more accessible.

Oh, that's good about the "teaching hospital". Also know that it's always within your rights to refuse the intern.
My MIL (granted this was years ago) also got upset because there was at one point about 6 interns staring up her hoo-ha during the birthing process.
