Melting Pot v. Simply Fondue - Review
My brother and his girlfriend has very recently gone to both. Since I know this was a topic on the board, I asked him to compare the two. Here's his review:
i definitely liked melting pot better. we shot down the suggested big night out..and ordered separately. there we had an entree and had fun cooking it. then we had dessert. everything cooked well we also each had 2 daiquris...bill w/ tip came to $105. way more than i'd ever spent on a dinner for 2. but it was a special occasion. pros: waitress was nice and explained everything well. she threw in a happy birthday candle desserts were delicious. we arrived early and they seated us early and got served early. we were seated at a cute cozy corner booth. cons..something made us dizzy, either the steam from the pot, or the drinks. they never took away the emply daiquiri glasses! but took away everything else! simply fondue..not as pleasureable. we went in there with a free chocolate fondue coupon..so i was expecting a cheap bill. we just wanted to try the cheese and chocolate. so we told the waitress to skip the presentation and said we know what we want. i think she got insulted by this and the fact that we weren't going to rack up a $100 bill. we got swiss fondue which was okay..then the girl said the coupon was only good for one person. so we doubled it..but it doesn't say that on the coupon. she brought the chocolate out and didn't tell us to wait for it to get hot. we were full by the time it got hot and it tasted better then. they raised the prices. i asked what happened to the menu online and she said it changed today and wasn't updated . cheese is $22 and chocolate was $20 but she only took off $9 for the coupon, not $10..that made no sense. The bill came out to $36 when i was expecting more like $20. so i gave her a crummy $5 tip. we arrived early and they seated us early but we had to sit and wait at our table for 20 minutes before the waitress came over to us.

Re: Melting Pot v. Simply Fondue - Review
I live in Great Neck and I can say that I don't think that place will make it. If a restaurant isn't amazing, people here won't patronize it at all...
The location is weird and many people who have the bucks in town are Kosher. Not all of them but many. So if a place want to do really really well, kosher is the way to go.
That's is terrible that they raised their prices and didn't make it clear on the coupon.
The most popular places in town are pizza places, Bruce's and Wild Ginger (yum)

That is interesting b.c those were the prices we had Sat. They said they lowered the prices for a few weeks as specials - so the prices on their website are higher than what we paid. Our full meal was only $38 pp. When did you go? I got the impression from our server that the prices would be lower for a few more weeks.
Etd to add that the prices were even lower than on their website - Online they were $18 I think for cheese, $45 for the whole meal pp.

No I would definitely go - we had a good meal - it was the service that left a lot to be desired (see my post from the weekend on the place) the food was good - but melting pot is just better. If I had a good coupon I would definitely go back esp since it is closer. It is just if I have a choice between the two I would pick MP over SF.
We didn't have any issues with our chocolate fondue btw - ours was hot so that wasn't an issue for us.
