menstrual like cramps and back pain
Is this normal? I am 37 weeks. My back has been hurting for a while, but tonight I am having some strong period cramps. I would think I was getting my period any second. I am very uncomfortable. Just hoping this is normal at this stage. Any feedback?

Isn't that early labor????? Lamaze teacher said menstrual cramps (that you could even sleep through) radiating from back.

I never actually went into labor, so I can't possibly tell you, but my nurse at school always told me that if you have cramps that start in your back and radiate to the front and bring your belly into almost a point that it could be back labor. It could also just be normal. So, really, I'm no help I just wanted to throw some labor dust your way!

That's how my labor began. I had period like cramps that intensified (but this, mind you, was *after* my water broke). Are they in regular intervals?

They are pretty constant since about 8 pm. I would swear that I am getting my period any second.

Time them and see. Even if you call the doctor, he'll want to know how often you're having them.

I believe my doctor said every 5 minutes for 1 hour or your water breaking.
Early labor can last 8-12 hours sometimes (about 3-5 contractions per hour, lasting 1 minute and are tolerable)
Once they move to every 5-7 minutes and last 60-90 seconds and are stronger and consitent you should call.
Also, if your water breaks, you feel dizzy, you are swelling, or any other sign of distress CALL YOU DOCTOR IMMEDITELY!

i've been having contractions that feel like menstrual cramps and radiate to my back and thighs for several weeks - for me they are just a nuisance, unfortunately. i hope that for you they mean labor!!!

You feel exactly how I feel. I've always felt menstrual cramps for the past couple of weeks. My doc. was aware and said it was all completely normal, but he asked if it felt like tightening. It didn't. But since yesterday it has, but inconsistent. I'm going to wait it out. Last night I had a contraction that actually woke me out of sleep. It was a real tightening feeling that you can even feel in your belly when you touch it. OOOOHhhh...i hope we're well on our way {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{labor vibes}}}}}}}}}}}}

Well I just called the doctor because the cramping has not stopped. He said this could be the beginning of labor and to stay home until the cramps are intense and every 5 minutes. I guess at this point they could go away or get worse. I must wait and see. I just don't want to feel this way for weeks. I can't find a comfortable position and some cramps are so painful they bring tears to my eyes.

I had menstrual cramps a few days before I went into labor. never thought anything about them until the labor started and I was like "duh" - big sign it will happen soon!

I am still home. Still feeling the same, so much pressure in my back and horrible cramps in my lower front area...very period like. I am exhausted. They sometimes come close together, and sometimes are far apart. I don't have a doctor's note to leave work yet, so I might have to go in like this tomorrow. I don't know what to do. I can't take this for weeks, I will tell you that!
