Metformin dosage - Questions
Hi All,
I had a question about Metformin. I've been on it for a little over two weeks now and I started my first week at 500mg, the next week I was bumped to 1000mg, and now I am at 1500mg in my 3rd week. I had a sono and blood work on Sat. and so far everything is still quiet. No maturing follicles, no change in my hormone levels. The doctor said it could take a few weeks to a few months for the meds to kick in and do their thing.
I was wondering, for those of you on Metformin, how long did it take you and at what dosage were you on before you started to see any effects of taking the medicine? I'm just curious. Any info or experience you may have is appreciated. Thanks!!!
Kris

Re: Metformin dosage - Questions
Of course everyone is different, that goes without saying. Unfortunately, for me, the Metformin was not enough to get me to ovulate, but I do ovulate now with Metformin and Clomid.
With that said, my doctor did tell me when I started the Met that it could take up to 3 months to start working.
ETA: I take 1500mgs, but it took me a while to make it to that doseage because I had a hard time adjusting to it.
G/L!

Re: Metformin dosage - Questions
I am on 1500mg of Metformin. I started at 1000 and after a month I went up to 1500. With both dosages I felt crappy right away - but it went away in about a week or two. It took a little longer when I started taking the 1500mg. I started in June, Went to 1500mg in July. I just ovulated for the first time last month. The doctors can't say for sure if it was the Met or if it was just a freak thing. I just did my first round of Clomid last cycle, and so far as my last sono on Sunday, my follies aren't getting any bigger. I am on CD 14 right now, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Metformin dosage - Questions
I started with 750 extended release Met and was fine. Two weeks later I bumped up to 1500mg extended and I had to adjust my diet. I started o'ing my third month on Met. Got the ok to ttc and was pregnant my sixth month on it. It took 3 months of actively trying once the Met started working. Good luck.
