Re: Miami building collapse
I’m wondering what exactly caused this. Had to be some major issues that went I unnoticed for the building to collapse like that.

Not that long ago because I was reading about it like an hour ago and it was 50 missing.
Heartbreaking whatever way you think of it - the picture of the bunk beds just sitting there on the edge of the building. All of these people most likely asleep...

Ugh now I just googled the images. I really hope those bunk beds were unoccupied.

That's what I can't get out of my head. Such a tragedy--and at the time when the most people would be inside. Praying for all of them.

OMG I haven't looked this morning yet at the news. what a tragedy. We are buying a condo for our parents not too far from there and it's in a similar type of condo building. I can't even imagine.

So horrible for all these families! They said the structure had been sinking since the 90s. How was action not taken years ago??

We were just saying that this will likely be the start of a whole bunch of second looks at buildings for structural flaws. This should never happen again.
Praying for them all.

I read a few articles that speculate could be poor structural integrity of the building due to rise in sea level, or corrosion of metal supports from the salt water. There were some concerns in the 90s that the building was apparently settling at a faster rate than the others built at the same time. Apparently they were in the midst of doing an inspection because it is required that they do this every 40 years and submit to the town a report regarding the structural integrity of the building, but it had not yet been completed. This is a living nightmare and my prayers go out to all who were affected

This is a horrifying story. Its almost inconceivable that this could happen without warning. I hope they find survivors. Its sickening.

Re: Miami building collapse
This ordeal has been haunting me.
It's so upsetting.
One guy who lost his mother and grandmother in this building collapse said his mom called him the night before saying there were loud sounds that kept her awake at night... like creaking.... ugh...

I know it has been haunting me too - I really think it's because we are closing on a property not that far from here, similar set up on the ocean on Wednesday for our parents. I can't even imagine what these people are going thru. Many said they were woken by what they thought was thunder the night before but there were no reports of lightning in the area. So unbelievably sad that something that was probably preventable caused so much devastation.

My heart breaks for these families, victims and first responders. It's heart breaking that they have been unable to find more survivors.

Yes, but even in that report they did not seem to think the damage was so major that the buildings were dangerously unsafe. It's incomprehensible. I feel like there is more to this than meets the eye.

Re: Miami building collapse
There was a report that one of the families with missing loved ones had received 16 missed calls from the landline in their parents apartment on Friday while they were at the community center waiting for news. The only thing that can be heard on the other end is static though. Sickening to think that they were alive and calling for help.
