middle country school...
alot of the houses we like are in the middle country school district. I know new lane elementary is an "open" classroom school....meaning there are no walls seperating the classes. Are all the elementary schools like this? i know for me this would be a distraction.

No, Jericho Elementary is also open. Or at least it was when I went there-15 years ago, lol.

Just wanted to let you know, I went to a school that was the open classroom concept and it really wasn't a distraction at all. I guess b/c it was all we knew it was fine. There was a partition between each classroom, and when there were tests and stuff, the teachers could pull a partition all the way around the room so there was quiet. And when we had indoor recess it was really cool b/c we could play with kids from all other classes.
ETA: when I would go to other schools that had "traditional" classrooms I though it was so weird and wondered how kids ever learned like that!

Stagecoach is also somewhat "open" but not nearly as open as New Lane. They put up some better partitions after the fire they had a few years ago.
New Lane is extremely open. And since you mentioned New Lane specifically, you should know that New Lane has no cafeteria..kids eat lunch in their classrooms.

Re: middle country school...
My DD goes to New Lane, she is in 2nd grade. While I thought the whole open classroom thing would be a distraction, I have been to the classrooms many times for calss parties and to read stories, and honestly, it's suprisingly quiet. I was actually impressed this year because her class actually has a smartboard which is so great for the kids!!

Re: middle country school...
We are in Middle Country School district. My kids go to Oxhead Road now (Centereach), and they have all individual classrooms. My DD went to Unity Drive for Kindergarten, and they were all individual classrooms as well. We really do love this district, the schools have been great, and they offer a lot to the kids.
