middle of night bottle feedings?

I just stopped BFing at night and am not used to the bottle feeding at night. what is your routine? the first time i did it, it took me 2 hours to get DD back down. Last night was a bit better but she was screaming while i was prepping the bottle. we use powder formula.
how long is your DC up? how long does it take DC to drink bottle? how do you get them back down? do you make the bottle before? where do you feed them?

Re: middle of night bottle feedings?

My routine took from start to finish about about 30 hour 45 mins.
Not sure how old your baby is though.

When he started to cry and went and warmed up the bottle.. then went in and change the diaper...got the bottle and fed on the rocker in his room.

he'd fall asleep with the bottle.

but as a newborn ..it took a while for him to get back to sleep.

Re: middle of night bottle feedings?

DS is 11 weeks and wakes up twice for the bottle. I get the bottle out of the fridge, stick it in hot water, go change his diaper and then start the feeding. Most of the time he will eat 2-3oz and go back to sleep. I don't force him to eat more, just put him back in the crib. the whole process takes maybe 30 minutes ohh and I feed him in LR, so DH can sleep

Re: middle of night bottle feedings?

I find preparing the bottles in advance is better. The bedrooms are upstairs so I put 3 bottles in a cooler with 2 ice packs..when i hear her fussing or start to cry I jump up, fill the sink with hot water and put it in. Durin that time I change her and giver her the paci to hold her over for the few minutes.

she just turned two months and has been sleeping 7+ hours for the past 3 nights..when she whimpers or cries a little i give her the pacifier and she goes right back to bed... it's the loud cries that i know it's time for a feeding...

he wakes, i make a bottle (usually powder but if he is screaming, ill open an 8oz RTF) go in and change him, feed him in his rocker and he is usually falling asleep in my arms by the time he is finishing the bottle (6-7 oz) burp, put him back down with paci, turn light off, leave room and BACK TO SLEEP!

Chat Icon the whole thing never takes more than 20 mins but he has always gone right back down, never a problem Chat Icon

DS is 7.5 weeks old and wakes up twice every night for a bottle.

He sleeps in his crib in his room with a night light and sound machine on. We dont take him out of that environment when he wakes because we want him to understand that it's still nighttime.
I run in the kitchen and make his bottle right when I hear him start to cry. I live in a 1 story house so that literally takes me 2 mins at the most to do... I think he'll be fine crying for a couple of mins. We feed him on the rocker in his room. He goes right back down, no problem.

Can't wait for him to sttn though! Keeping our fingers crossed that it's sometime in the near future!

ETA: The whole process never takes more than 20 mins.

Re: middle of night bottle feedings?

We prepare the bottles in advance right before bed - formula is good in the fridge, prepared, for 24 hours. She drinks them cold, so when she wakes up, I give her the bottle (prop it so I can change her diaper at the same time), finish feeding her in the glider, and she goes right back in the crib.

DD is 7 weeks and she gets up once around 3 am in the middle of the night for a bottle - I am also weaning her off of breastmilk so we started with the night bottle - we try to get her before it turns into a full out cry so that she is still not fully awake. I get her. Get the bottle ready. change her diaper and then feed her in the rocker in her room with no lights on and no noise whatsoever. I do not talk to her at all either. I found this helped her learn between day and night. During the day we have llights, tv, music and I talk to her during her feedings. At night it is the complete opposite. It use to take her about an hour and a half to go back down when she was younger but now it normally takes 30 minutes at most start to finish.
