Does he take a pacifier? If so, have you tried to just give him that when he wakes up instead of a bottle?

Re: eliminating middle of the night bottle
My dd is 6 1/2 months old. We have had some recent success with eliminating the middle of the night bottle. I have her on a schedule where I feed her dinner (cereal and a veggie) around 6pm. I then give her a bottle (about 6-7 ozs) around 8pm, which is her bedtime. She typically sleeps from 8pm to somwhere between 4:30-7am depending on the day.
My doctor told us that after six months assuming she had enough food before bedtime that we should let her CIO during the middle of the night. I am happy that we didn't have to deal with that.
What is your current schedule? How much is the baby eating before you put him down?

Re: eliminating middle of the night bottle
We finally did it at 12 months and it was tough. A lot of soothing, patting the back, and that he would just fall back asleep. Ugh. After a few nights, he realized he wasn't going to get it so he didn't even wake up crying for it anymore.
