I'm just sickened over this.

On the July 17, 2008 edition of his radio show, Savage labeled autism a "fraud" and prescribed tough love for autistic children: "I'll tell you what autism is. In 99% of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out." He went on to say:
"That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’"
Savage concluded,
“f I behaved like a fool, my father called me a fool. And he said to me, ‘Don’t behave like a fool.’ The worst thing he said — ‘Don’t behave like a fool. Don’t be anybody’s dummy. Don’t sound like an idiot. Don’t act like a girl. Don’t cry.’ That’s what I was raised with. That’s what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You’re turning your son into a girl, and you’re turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men.”[

Channel 11 (CW11) news had this story on last night or Friday. You may want to check out Jim Watkin's response to Savage, Watkins is the father of an autistic child.
Watkins was very professional during the news story and just mentioned at the end of the story that he felt he had to make a statement.

Who is this moron. Never heard of him before.
I have a cousin with Autism. It is definitely not a fraud. My cousin is 21 will never live a normal life and will never be able to work. He has a very limited vocabulary. He does the rock and organizes EVERYTHING,
He must not know someone with Autism. And I pray he never has a child with Autism. He couldn't handle it.

I love people who make proclaimations like that.
too bad that science isn't on his side, huh? Even ignoring all of the circumstantial evidence of possible causes, the brains of autsitic children are remarkably different than other children. For example, they have much less myelination (the 'insulation' for our 'wiring').
I'm sure that idiot will claim that's not true also......
nothing like people shooting off their mouths on topics they know nothing about

I don't even know who this guy is, but now I know why. I don't listen to plain out ignorance. Nor will I acknowledge the ridiculousness of his statement.
Obviously he has no clue and has been living under a rock.
ETA: Have him take a tour of Nassau Boces or Maryhaven and see if he still thinks that way

Piece of sh!t, there is a petition against him going around about this, don't know what good it would do though......I would love for this guy to work in the field of Autism for five minutes and then see if he thinks its a fraud

if you listen to his radio show, the above poster is right. He is so extreme. All he does is yell and scream. He is definitely conservative, but takes things to the craziest levels just to get people riled up. He is too intelligent to actually be as closeminded as he sounds. I think a lot of it is hype.
Although if he would like to take a tour of my classroom or talk to distraught parents, i would be happy to prove to him, it's not a fraud.

I think this is exactly what he is doing.
He just takes a topic he wants to "attack" and goes for it. Knowing very well that people will jump on his throat. He is only after publicity.
Bad way to market yourself in my opinion!
