I dispise this "hate radio" thing! I would be SO ASHAMED of myself to make money this way...

DH sent me this link off of Mike Savage's website. Since my brother has autism, he knew I was raging mad about this, and since he's in radio, he's been paying attention to the reactions.

The Autism Controversy

My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community's attempt to label too many children or adults as "autistic."

Just as some drug companies have overdiagnosed "ADD" and "ADHD" to peddle dangerous speed-like drugs to children as young as 4 years of age, this cartel of doctors and drug companies is now creating a national panic by overdiagnosing "autism, for which there is no definitive medical diagnosis!

Many children are being victimized by being diagnosed with an "illness" which may not exist, in all cases. Just a few weeks ago doctors recommended dangerous anti-cholesterol drugs for children as young as 2 years of age! Without any scientific studies on the possible dangers of such drugs on children, corrupt doctors made this controversial, unscientific recommendation.

Increasingly, our children are being used as profit centers by a greedy, corrupt medical/pharmaceutical establishment. As the brother of a severely disabled person who suffered and died in a New York "snake-pit" of a "mental hospital," I know first-hand what true disability is.

To permit greedy doctors to include children in medical categories which may not be appropriate is a crime against that child and their family. Let the truly autistic be treated. Let the falsely diagnosed be free.

I listened to him yesterday and he said that he was taken out of context by media matters, which is a very liberal group that hates his politics. He said that he was talking about how autism is being misdiagnosed in many kids. He said he was not talking about kids who really do have it, moreso he's against doctors who overdiagnose. He sees it as the new ADHD, where the term is very commonly used to describe behaviors that are not always part of an actual disorder. He also said that he is a child advocate, whereas people like Howard Stern have truly and outwardly ridiculed and mocked handicapped people for years and no one said a word. Additionally, doesn't he have the right of free speech. If he believes that many doctors say kids are autistic when they are not, doesn't he have the right to say that.

Ummmm - YOUR father was able to raise you THIS way b/c YOU do not have autism !!! Jacka$$ !!

And *** does the 'sensitivity training' (which I do partially agree with what he's saying, just not the way he's saying it) have to do with Autism? -

It's one thing to coddle and spoil a child who could otherwise be perfectly self sufficient and behaved, and create a monster - it's entirely another story to parent a child with autism - HOW do you even attempt to compare the two?

I think any parent would much rather their child be a raging brat than get an autism diagnosis from an MD!! - What does he think people are faking this???
