I did not know that everyone in her family wore a pumpkin outfit plus I could not give a ****. This is my son and he is wearing what we want him to wore not what she says. MILs are such pains in the assess 
I know! I p1ssed my MIL as well by buying DD's costume myself (she bought it last year) She tells me oh I thought that was my job. I said sorry that was a one time offer!

I guess I can see that she wanted to continue the tradition, but wow did she approach it wrong. She should have picked up or borrowed a costume that would fit him and ask if you minded if he wore it for a bit so she could take some pics and explain. I bet then you wouldn't have minded.

I would hold DS up to your ear like he is telling you a secret. Then say to you MIL "DS just told me that you are acting like a doodie head and that he wants to be tigger for Halloween".
OR
I would say to your DS (in the cutesy baby tone that we talk to our DC in) "isn't Grandma being rude snot right now? Yes she is. Yes she is. Who's a jerk? GRANDMA! How big of a moron is she being...SO BIG!"

I'm sorry that yoour MIL acted that way- I would be pi***ed too!
Her comments through your baby don't even deserve a response.
My MIL insisted on buying DS's crhistening outfit and easter outfit- maybe because I'm not Catholic I don't get a say in what my baby wears?
If she even suggests halloween or Christmas I'm going to put my foot down!  The way I look at it- whoever gets up with the baby in the middle of the night and whoever went through labor gets the fun of picking the cute outfits!

We did the pumpkin costume for DS's first Halloween. That has always been my dream for when I had a baby. It is cute but so is the Tigger costume and you have the right to start your own traditions. If she wants a pumpkin costume then she can get it herself and maybe you can put it on him take pictures to make her happy so then maybe she'll shutup about it...
