MIL rant
Am I overreacting? My inlaws travel down south for the winter (Nov-April...so basically my whole pregnancy). I know MIL is missing a lot so i decided to be nice two weeks ago (when I was 16 weeks) and send her a belly pic. I was barely showing, just like a little gut. So she writes back to me:
"thanks for the pic, Chubs. Don't be so sensitive and overreact I am just kidding."
I am furious and want to know if I am overreacting from hormones! How would you feel to be called Chubs? I mean she had to know it would bother me because she had to add a disclaimer so I wouldn't "overreact"

What are you really going to do about it? Cause a big fight? People are going to say a million different stupid and insensitive things to you .....
My Uncle calls me 'Chubs' every time he sees me - I roll my eyes at him and tell him to go scratch -
Don't let it get to you.
Was it the nicest thing to say? No, of course not. But it was her idea of a joke ........

ITA. I really don't think you should be devastated by it. It may have been a bad joke, but a joke none the less.

it depends on your relationship with your MIL. if mine said that to me i'd just laugh it off b/c i know she wouldn't actually mean it and would honestly be joking. if that's your MIL, then just laugh it off. if you think she was making an underhanded jab at you, that's a different story. it sounds like she was just joking though (but you know her better than i do).

I probably wouldn't be devastated, but it isn't funny. When I was 7 mos, pregnant I almost got in a fist fight with a stranger who called me a "fat b1tch".
Tell her she needs to kid about things that you find funny. Not things that she knows are hurtful comments.
Also cheer up. That women is about to experience a whole new power shift as you give birth to the Golden Child...woo hoo!

hmmm i wouldn't find that offensive at all. i'm carrying small though and everyone has been telling me that my baby belly is small. i'm always the one who calls myself fat, chubby, look like i have a beer gut, etc. i wouldn't care if they did call me chubby though. i'm supposed to look fat/chubby - i'm pregnant!
