MIL vent
I cant.
My MIL just requested to be in the room while I deliver.
According to her this is her last grandbaby and it is her due right to be there.
Sorry, but NO!
Anyone?

No way in hell! My own mother isn't even allowed in! Thank G-d my MIL would have no interest in being in the room.
How did you respond?

No!!! Why does she think it's her right? You shouldn't have anyone in there that you don't want there. Is your DH taking your side?

Re: MIL vent
When I gave birth to DD my step-mom was actually upset when we didn't let her come back in the room. I let my mom and step-mom come in to say hi, but I had made the nurses lie and say everyone had to leave the room except DH so they could break my water.
I think my mom knew better, that I wouldn't want them in the room, but that was lost on my step-mom. Now we are close, but come on...
Hopefully this time everyone knows the drill and will just stay out!

I was dumb struck. (Not too difficult since Im pregnant and suffer from pregnancy induced stupidity)
I told her that I didnt think it was a possibility due to hospital regulations.

She had her "due right" when she had her own children. She got to be in the room then.

She's very odd to begin with.
I havent told my DH yet. I'll him when he gets home.
I know what he's going to say/do. He's going to laugh and shake his head. Then tell me that he'll deal with it when the time comes. Which means when I go into labor.

Re: MIL vent
My MIL and FIL bought me a video camera so I could "film the birth". Heck no! Plus the hospital doesn't even allow cameras (so I used that as my main excuse) but now I feel like MIL will push to be in the room. I am not letting my own mother witness the birth, why would I let her? DH knows... it is him and NO ONE ELSE.

Re: MIL vent
I wouldn't even make up an excuse - I would have just told her "No, just DH and I are going to be alone in the room for delivery"
I won't even let Mom and MIL come visit me in L&D. I told them they can see all 3 of us after the fact
That is pretty ballsy of her!!

Re: MIL vent
I feel for you. If my MIL lived in closer, this is something she would totally ask.
My in-laws have no boundaries what so ever, and would find it perfectly acceptable to be in the room...and by my feet!...if I let them.

Re: MIL vent
WOW!!! Ummm....well, Im sorry she is putting you in this position. I agree w/what a lot of ladies are saying and of course, what you already know. This is not the time or place for her to be pulling any demands. Just hold strong to your decision, this is not her party.
I'm actually 1/2 waiting for my MIL to introduce this idea. She is already hinting to DH she wants in on the next sono. There is NO way in heck I'm having DH stay out in the waiting room so she can be there. I'm kinda in a different situation, I dont have a mom so MIL has happily taken over the role. I honestly think it makes her happy that I dont have a mom so she has no one to "compete" with.
I think w/MIL's like we have, the best thing for us to do is lay down the law and hold firm to it. Heck I dont even want them to visit us in the hospital till a few hrs after the babes is born. I just want time for DH & I to bond w/the babes. I'm praying I give birth in the middle of the night.
Good Luck!!!!!!!

Re: MIL vent
There are enough ppl looking at my lady parts...lol!!!
Good job with the hospital regulations - if that doesn't work - doctor's regulations!
I don't even want anyone in the hospital. My mom doesn't want to be in the room and I totally agree - me and DH - we started this whole thing and we will finish the whole process without anyone else (outside of the docs and nurses...lol)...wow - how ballsy....With my first child, my request for no one at the hospital until the baby was born was not followed and I had a 17 hour labor - ha!
