Re: milk allergy... how did you know

It's been a while, but these are what I remember

* Lots of poopy diapers - like 10-12 a day
* Projectile vomiting
* Fighting the bottle (we thought he was just fussy)
* Severe eczema
* Bloody mucus in stool

A couple of times my ds has spit up and a good amount, even coming out the nose.

I'm just wondering if he has a milk allergy. Sometimes he still gets fussy when eating and he also isn't eating as much in one feeding as he used to. He used to drink 5-6 oz at a time and now i'm lucky if i can get 3 oz out of him during a feeding. So i'm just wondering what's going on with him lately.

I'd speak to his doctor about it. Then it's on both of your radar going forward, and they can give you a good idea of what exactly to look for.

Yes i'll definitely do that, i was just wondering if you ladies could give me some more insight. Chat Icon

ETA: my ds has acid reflux, so some of the symptoms of a milk allergy could also be the same for reflux.

Also, how do you test for a milk allergy?

Also, how do you test for a milk allergy?

First the pediatrician sent us for bloodwork (RAST allergy panel), and then when that came back indicating a middle of the road milk allergy we went to a pediatric allergist. She did a skin test (also called a scratch test) which showed a pretty severe allergy to milk and milk proteins (rare to have a skin test reaction to milk proteins). Basically they put a concentrated amount of the allergen(s) they are testing for on the skin and measure how large the reaction is within about 10 minutes. DS gets a huge welt immediately. We go back every year for a skin test to see if it's gotten better or worse.

DD was doing some of these just fussy, drinking less, spit up I told her pediatrician and he recommended Enfamil AR lipil DD seems much more settled now spitup has definitely decreased. in her case I don't think its a milk allergy
