MiniDVD or Hard Drive Camcorder???
I have been going back and forth on which one to get... I would like to hear any opinions. I want this to record videos of our baby... I don't really need to edit, but it would be nice to make back-ups. The three I am debating are the: Sony - Handycam Camcorder DCR-SR42 (Hard Drive) Sony - Handycam Camcorder DCR-SR45 (Newer version of the Hard Drive one above) Sony - Handycam DVD Camcorder - Silver DCR-DVD610 (records to miniDVD)
Please help me decide! I want to buy one before my baby shower - which is 1 week from today!

if you don't need/want to edit, minidvd is for you...
if you like to edit, i would do mini dv or hard drive...
you can always make a backup of dvd's

Re: MiniDVD or Hard Drive Camcorder???
We bought a miniDVD on about 2 years ago (Sony). At the time the only hard drive one that was out was JVC and it didn't get good reviews.
Now I am wishing I had a hard drive camcorder. It's just more convenient not to have to deal with all of the little DVD's.

hard drive for sure - hate dealing with making sure we have the dvds - we just find it more convenient.

Re: MiniDVD or Hard Drive Camcorder???
Just curious....if you're away on a long vacation...and need to release some memory on the hard drive one...where can you unload it so that you can make new space? (sorry if this is a dumb ?)

Re: MiniDVD or Hard Drive Camcorder???
I actually just bought the Sony DCR-DVD 610, it came in the mail last night. I think it is a great choice because it is a hybrid camcorder. You can record onto a dvd or onto a pro duo memory stick. I ordered an 8gb memory stick which at the highest quality will record around 2 hours (which is like having a mini hard drive)but I also like having the option to record directly onto the dvd as well.

We have a Sony mini DVD. I'm not sure which model.
Love it so far, although we haven't used it much yet.

Re: MiniDVD or Hard Drive Camcorder???
My brother has a hard drive one and he hates it. He has to carry his laptop with him when he visits our parents or goes places cause you need to install software on the computer to dump the memory to record more.
My mom has the Sony mini dvd one and she loves it, i've used it quite alot and i dont see it to be inconvenient at all. My brother regrets getting the hard drive one.
Like for xmas, we put all the mini dvds together and burned them onto 1 big dvd for backup and one holiday in one place

Re: MiniDVD or Hard Drive Camcorder???
Like BabyBoy said.
I have a Sony MiniDVD and we use it weekly. so easy to use and when the DVD is done, I label it and put it away.
I'm not disciplined enough to upload and edit and then have to save onto a DVD.
