Mixing BM and Formula?
Who out there has mixed BM with formula?
At our last ped visit, my doctor told me it was OK to supplement bottles of BM with some formula to top it off.
I am just going to start, so I called just to see if there was any special water I had to use and the nurse told me to BF, then give him a bottle with the formula. So I told her I am pumping b/c I am at work and she put me on hold to go talk to the doctor.
She came back and told me the doctor said it is OK, but it bugged me that she initially told me I couldn't mix.
I am just curious to see if any of you have mixed BM with some formula in your bottles. Guess I need some reassurance!!!

Jersey,
I mixed BM with formula, DD did just fine. Nothing wrong with that. The nurse just made sure it was ok for you. I had to give DD formula exclusivly for 3 weeks to flush jaundice. Sounds like the nurse had to confirm w/Dr that your not under any special instructions.

I tried to mix, my DD wouldn't drink it at all. She'd only take the BM or the FOrmula. I used to give her some BM then some formula, it was a pain is the arse

I guess it depends on your dr. B/c mine told me if I had to give her the bm alone first in the bottle then formula separate in a supplemental bottle if need be.

i've mixed it before and haven't had a problem with it at all. the only bad part is that if the baby doesn't finish the bottle you have to throw it out. and i hate hate hate throwing out breast milk!! so now if i have to supplement i give formula by itself.

That's what we did too. I'd give her whatever BM I had, then filled the bottle w/formula when she was done with the BM, until she was full. I didn't want to waste BM either.
