2 S.C. kids found dead under home sink
HANAHAN, S.C. — A woman accused of leaving her two young children in a hot car while she was at work was charged with homicide by child abuse after their bodies were found wrapped in trash bags under an apartment sink, authorities said Tuesday.
Officers investigating a report of a disturbance at the apartment Monday night found Sametta Heyward, 27, crying and yelling, "'Oh, my babies,'" according to a police report.
A man holding Heyward told officers "the kids were in trash bags and under the cabinet." The police report said Heyward tried to bite and kick the officers, had to be restrained, and was taken to a hospital because medics thought she could be having seizures.
"She stated she wanted to die and asked officers to kill her," the report said.
Police Chief Don Wilcox said investigators had not been able to talk to the woman because her attorney advised her not to say anything.
"We're trying to run down the timeline, as well as get any physical evidence, so we can determine exactly what took place," Wilcox said.
Investigators found a note Heyward left at her apartment, explaining that she had arranged for a baby sitter, but when plans fell through she took the children with her in the car to work in downtown Charleston, Berkeley County Deputy Coroner George Oliver said. It was not clear what day she was referring to.
"She pretty much laid out the scenario," Oliver said of the note. "Apparently that's her justification for taking the children with her and for leaving them in the car."
The results of the autopsies on 1-year-old Triniti Campbell and her 4-year-old brother, Shawn Campbell Jr., were not immediately released.
Officials have not determined where or when the children died, and more tests will be needed to determine exactly what killed them, Oliver said.
Heyward's attorney, Andrew Savage, said he met with her shortly before she was released from the hospital on Tuesday and taken to the police station in handcuffs and scrubs.
"She actually couldn't really talk. She knew we were there, but she was grieving," Savage said. "It was really to tell her we were there, supportive of her, and we were going to help her."
Heyward cried throughout a two-minute initial court appearance Tuesday night, only quietly acknowledging a judge telling her he could not set her bond.
Neighbor Brandon Coving said he saw Heyward and the children on Sunday. "They were running around, and she had a big smile on her face, and it seemed like a regular day," he said.
Hanahan is about 15 miles north of Charleston.

while I hate that she did that, I wonder if she had more resources available to her, if htat would have happened.

OMG.......
ETA: She is obviously a sick women. The tests will reveal if that is how they died.....it could be something else.

I'm not justifying what she did, as it's unthinkable and she should be punished, however, some people have NO options. If they call in sick, they get fired. They have no friends that can care for the children. They can't bring the child(ren) to work.
I've seen so many stories on the news about bad things happening to children as a result of the parents not having adequate childcare. I remember the single father that left his little boy home alone because he had no one to care for him and the house ended up burning down and the little boy died. It's sad, and I wish there were more options in place for people that need care or backup care.
Obviously this lady had mental issues though, as she was able to stuff them in trash bags and go eat at Arby's 
I saw vidoes of the children on Nancy Grace last night and they were so cute dancing, laughing and having fun. Such a horrific story

So sad.
I know...I'm confused. She put them in the car and than they died. But she's acting like she doesn't know what happened to them and how they ended up under the sink?
Am I missing something?
Regardless, it's terrible what happened to those babies. May the rest in peace

Not to sound harsh, but the disenfranchised in today's society don't have the options that those of us who post here do. At the very least we have enough money to afford a computer and internet access. In and of itself this opens us up to a world of resources that we might not otherwise know about.
I'd bet that woman took her kids to work b/c calling in sick was the same thing as quitting her job. I'd bet she has no nearby family resources to rely on as backup when the babysitter can't make it. I'd bet she's already been in trouble for leaving them alone in the apartment (or knows someone who got into trouble for that). I don't know about that woman's job, but obviously she couldn't bring the kids to work with her or she wouldn't have left them in the car - they would have been inside!
For you or me - yes, it may be true that there are options, but neither of us knows enough about this woman's socio-economic background to say that she had options.

Ok but everyone knows that you will pass out/suffocate/die by sitting in a hot car all day in the middle of summer. You don't have to have the internet to know that. She could have done something else other than leaving her kids to die in the car............ like get fired.

IMO, as I am entitled to, there is no reason (excuse, whatever) to leave your children in a car....she is a waste of a life and her children deserved better, period...there is NO justifying what she did

Ok but everyone knows that you will pass out/suffocate/die by sitting in a hot car all day in the middle of summer. You don't have to have the internet to know that. She could have done something else other than leaving her kids to die in the car............ like get fired.
But everyone doesn't know that. You would think they do,and they should, but they don't. Disadvanted people tend not to be very educated on the simplest things in life..hence the reason for this tragedy and many others.
There is a woman in a group my sister belongs to that has left her baby in the car several times by mistake. She simply forgot she had the baby with her since she hardly takes the baby out. She has a geuine concern about it, so she was posting for advice and a lot of people said to put a note on her steering wheel so she won't forget. It even happens to people that aren't "idiots" and that are worthy of bearing children.
I also saw on Good Morning America today a device that straps to the carseat and that you strap to yourself that will beep if you forget to take the child out of the car. Apparently it happens more often that we all realize.
Obviously this woman didn't leave them in the car by accident though.

I don't know i'd think from her living in SC that she's gotten into a few sweltering hot cars in her life after a full day of it sitting in the sun. You can hardly breathe... how could she think her kids would survive in there? I don't know, maybe i'm wrong but it's pretty much common sense to me.

I dunno. I guess when you aren't used to having the baby tag along, who knows. But if someone is creating a device for it, it must happen a lot for it to sell.
On the rare chance that I get out alone without the kids, I'll get to my destination and then think OMG I forgot the baby! Only to realize that she wasn't with me to begin with.
