Mommies who delivered recently at North Shore Manhasset or LIJ

I heard that since the new Women's center opened and everyone has private room's that there is no longer a nursery and that all newborns stay in the room with the Mom no matter what.

Does anyone know if this is true? What if you have c-section?

With my first she was born via emergency c-section late at night and I was in bad shape that night. I couldn't even really hold her.

Anyway, I am due with #2 in a couple of weeks and I am nervous about that first night after my c-section.

Does anyone know what the deal is from experience?

I had DS#3 in March at the new women's hospital at LIJ. I put him in the nursery at night. No one gave me a hard time at all or tried to make me keep him w/ me. I saw lots of babies in there when I went in to get him when I woke up in the morning. There is def a nursery!!!!!

HTH!

I just had DS at NSUH in Manhasset. I had a scheduled c-section. The nurses were AWESOME and when I was SO tired and in pain they RECOMMENDED he go to the nursery for a few hours so I could rest. I sent him to the nursery between all night feeds the first night, then for a few hours here and there the remaining days. There is a nursery on every floor now and I believe there are 3 floors in the postpartum unit.

I just had DD in June and the new Katz building has a nursery in it on the same floor. You have the option to have the nursery keep the baby over night but they will bring the baby to feed just about every 2 hours.
I had a c section also and one night I was in pain and just so tired that i wanted to be able to sleep without wondering how the baby was doing so I sent her to the nursery. They were great.

The new rooms are beautiful in both buildings. I work at LIJ and they are really like a hotel room and the nursery is right outside the rooms. You should do a tour of where you will give birth. Either way you cant go wrong. I chose Manhasset cause my doctors are primarily there.
Good luck with your choice. You really cant go wrong

I was at Manhasset and as pp said yes, they have a nursery and are great about whatever you want to do. But make sure if you are BFing that you are adamant they bring your LO in for feedings if you have him in nursery at night. We had him in the nursery our first night and they never woke me for a feeding, gave him bottles w/o asking me.

This is def not true! I just delivered my twins a few weeks ago at the news Katz's Womens center at LIJ and the twins stayed in the nursery at night. They brought them every few hours at night for me to BF. During the day I kept them in the room with me.

I stayed in the new pribate rooms at north shore and that was not true at all. The baby could go whenever I wanted. We kept him the first night and gave him back for about 7 hours the second night bc I was so exhausted and I figured that was my last shot at sleeping for a while.

When we the hospital tour they encouraged having the baby stay in your room BUT when I actually delivered and stayed there they were very easygoing about having the baby in the nursery (this was Manhasset)
