Mommy and me classes...any rec's for the Merrick area?

Probably a stupid question...but what do you do during them? Do the kids just play while the mommy's talk?

Re: Mommy and me classes

They vary, but usually the parents participate and help their children sing songs, clap their hands, use simple instruments, etc. The one I go to usually has some time for Moms to talk, but that's not the focus of the class.

Re: Mommy and me classes

I love the one we go to. It depends on the age of your child, but the younger they are the more hands on you are. I enjoy escorting my son through the various play areas. I started when he was just over 12 mos old and now he has 20 mos. There were so many things he couldn't do when we started that he can now so its great to watch that progression as well.

Re: Mommy and me classes...any rec's for the Merrick area?

I can't give any recs since I'm not on LI, but we just started Music Together a few weeks ago and yes I think it is worth the $..

I have an 18 month old that never sits still (for the most part) but at this class he really does participate, play the instruments, dance, enjoys the songs, will even sit in my lap during some of them (unheard of at home Chat Icon)

I can't say I really interact much with the other Moms and Dads, though.. I think maybe with younger babies you have a chance to chat with the parents more ( I never took classes when DS was an infant so I can't say for sure) My class is mostly toddlers , 1 1/2 yrs and older, so all the parents are too busy making sure their DC are behaving to really chat Chat Icon Sometimes after class we linger around and talk a bit. So far I've found everyone pretty nice Chat Icon

But I don't really do it for MY socialization.. I mainly do it since I'm a SAHM and I want DS exposed to playing with other children , since he does not get the opportunity for much socialization otherwise..

This is why I want to do it as well. He is a year old now and other than play dates I have once a week or so I wanted to get him involved in something else.

We do a Music Together class in Massapequa but they also have a location in Bellmore. You could always contact the director, Paula, and ask her if you could demo a class. She should be pretty accommodating.

Go t www.musictogether.com

I joined a mommy and me swim class with saf t swim. DD and I love it.
They have one in E Meadow and in Westbury. I thought I look (well I know) horrible in a bathing suit, but its not about me, who cares its for dd! Maybe you might like it!
