Moms, could use some advice on how to deal with the costipation issues
DS started on whole milk last week and has had issues pooping. He's had constipation issues in the past, but now I'm seeing him struggle to push more than ever. When he does poop, it's been a little hard.
He's also been eating more "table food", so I know he's getting quite the shock to his system.
I put in a call to his ped to see if I should stop the milk, chance to soy or ride it out until his system gets used to it. I'm also wondering if I should hold back on some table food.
Just looking for some advice from BTDT moms.

maybe make sure DS gets some prune? I know Earth's Best makes an apple prune puree- try that? Also- make sure DS is getting some water or watered down juice- that will help things move along...

Re: Moms, could use some advice on how to deal with the costipation issues
I would try to up the fruit intake and the water. I give my son fruit with almost every meal and that keep him regular. The milk shouldn't constipate him - it would more be the table food. Personally, I would wait it out but I would see what the ped says and go from there.

Re: Moms, could use some advice on how to deal with the costipation issues
When my guy is constipated, I give him prune, pear or apple juice mixed with water (1:1 ratio) and it does the trick in no time. I am sure his system will get used to the changes soon, hoping this will help in the meantime!
Good Luck!

Re: Moms, could use some advice on how to deal with the costipation issues
We have dealt with horrible constipation issues. Our dr had him try prunes. He had to take A LOT of prunes for months, but he was very bad. Then once he started whole milk, it happened again.
I'd speak to the dr about it. Eveyone is different in the severity.

My little guy had a lot of problems with this. Adding water to his daily diet and prunes in some form helped.

Definitely give fruit with every meal!! I like the dole diced apples and mixed fruit! Also the stop and shop instant Farina is great to move things along and ds loves it!!!

Re: Moms, could use some advice on how to deal with the costipation issues
Thanks everybody.
My sister babysits and she is giving him fruit/veggies alternating each meal, and he's been getting prune juice (at least this morning he did), so at least I know I'm doing something right.
Still waiting for the dr. to call me back.

Re: Moms, could use some advice on how to deal with the costipation issues
When ds was constipated, I thought it was the milk but too but the ped told us to cut out apples & bananas & it worked right away. I didn't even realize how much apples he was eating b/c he loved them so much.
Some people are more sensitive to the pectin (sp?) in those friuts & it can cause constipatation. He said to give more 'p' fruits like pears, prunes, peaches, etc.

I give DS blueberried and applesause. Also, make sure that your DC gets water - even a bit of juice watered down is good. I had this problem and the implimentation of other liquids has helped quite a bit. DS is one year old BTW.
